Question about player-generated content.

By MORfiction, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

I've been cooking up some content for an RPG for awhile. I was considering an Open Game License from Wizards of the Coast but as yet I don't have enough material for a full-fledged self-contained game. Maybe I've got a good campaign mode in the stew? I don't know. Problem is the guy willing to GM is sticking with doing fourth edition stuff when we discuss gaming.

Does Fantasy Flight Games or Games Workshop have a license program similar to OGL? I have this main, non-playable character lined up who hires the game players and this is the framework for the RPG. I also have several game mechanics in mind such as having unique skills & maybe even classes. But the thing is I really enjoyed playing Warhammer Online and want some of the magic of that world to spice up my game.

Do I even need a license at all?

Right now I own none of the source material for Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay.

GW tends to sue people using their trademarked names. Supporting fan base would be something completely different.

There are companies out there that have use options: d20 and Savage Worlds come to mind. Games Workshop is very protective of their intellectual properties and I'd imagine that FFG paid handsomely for the rights to produce for WFRP for G.W. The only company that is probably more protective is Kevin Sembieidieidida (Palladium). He'll send you out a crayon-written notice on a used hankerchief if you so much as use the name on your website.

If you have talent and are looking to show it off, we invite you to join in on LIBER FANATICA. #8 is slated to be done soon and #9 will be recruiting shortly after #8 is announced. Many companies want proof you can write in the fan-arena prior to getting you a paid job and LIBER FANATICA is one of those arenas to cut your teeth. www.liberfanatica.net/

Thanks for the input. I'll look into Savage Worlds. You think I can combine some d20 stuff with it? Pick and choose material? Or are they mutually exclusive of each other?
