I’ve been contemplating this model for months, pretty much looking at it every day but could not justify its cost, especially when compared to the price of the other bots, twice as much. But with a free postage offer and my birthday coming up – got me mother to buy me one
So...
The box arrived pretty prompt from Hong Kong taking 10 days. It’s a pretty flimsy affair, just a plain thin box with a sticky label on it. This would not inspire purchase if found in a shop, you would probably walk right by it.
In the box you get the starter-comic, a sheet of transfers for both Allie and Axis bots and surprisingly a game card. On the model side you get a round base with insert, two sprue’s of parts for the legs and body, these are exactly the same as the Axis bots, a box of resin bits to convert the hull and two 75L70 guns and an instruction sheet.
The instructions for the legs are unclear, the parts are not numbered on the sheet despite numbers being printed on the components and it’s crucial that they go together in the right order so they can be jointed properly. I decided to get out one of the other models as a guide and then the legs went together quick and easy and parts fitting perfect. You can position the legs with a little freedom, positioning them slightly different from the other bots.
The body was straight forward to fit together but the instructions fail to tell you that you have to remove a couple of lugs on the hull for the resin parts to fit.
Now for the resin parts. I’ve not dealt with resin before and was expecting them to be hard and brittle, but the parts are opposite. The material is soft to cut but firm and flexible, yeah I know it doesn’t make much sense, but that’s how it is. There is no flash on any of the parts but the resin injection lugs need to be cut off which is very easy to do with a sharp knife.
For the hull you get a resin box to go on the back, it doesn’t look like a tool box, so I guess it must be some kind of counter-balance for the guns. The other part is an attachment for the hull front and hatch. The hatch has interior detail and can be hinged open if desired. These to add-ons really bulk out the hull making it worthy of its stats. There is also a gun sight and light to attach.
Each gun comes in several parts, half a muzzle brake, barrel, breach, ammo box, a bit of decor, gun shield and pintle. Looking at the online art, there seems to be very little difference between the 88mm and 75mm guns and they are still very similar when shown next to each other. The kit could have done with new rear-end parts in my opinion.
Conclusion
Bad points. Poor packaging but that’s doesn’t matter if you are buying online and know what you are getting. The instructions could have been clearer; they are ok for an experienced modeller but could be confusing for the novice as they are incomplete. The model could have done with a few more new parts to make it more different from the Luther.
Good Points. The quality of the components is as good as you could get. The detail is clean, sharp with no defects of flash and fit together perfectly. The decal sheet is an added bonus as there are plenty of spares to adorn your other bots for Allies as well Axis.
Thanks!
