The King in Yellow was a surprise guest at my wedding

By Tibs, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Got married yesterday. I didn't want it to be this big, involved thing, and it didn't turn out to be, which was great. But I did have full creative control over the text the officiant was going to read, so I included generous quotation from The King in Yellow.

Here is the page I handed to the officiant (my brother):

Just thought you might be as amused as I was to know that this was read aloud in a mostly serious tone.

Speaking of which:

Then that night we played probably the single most awesome game of Mansions of Madness ever.

Here are some pics of related collateral:

The invitation. Note the very special symbol hidden in the background behind the ampersand...

The RSVP card. The food images were scanned from various Agricola cards, and the font used is Post Antiqua, which is the primary font used for components in Puerto Rico.

These are samples of the placeholders each guest had for their meal.

I had designed guestbook pages for the guests to fill out while waiting for the food, and this is what my brother had to say:

Sorry it's illegible. Apparently nobody had legible handwriting.

Lastly, here are the vows we shared:

Nice! And congratulations!!

(Also it's always a tiny bit jarring to unexpectedly learn someone's real name and/or what the deal is with their username)

Soooo... After the King in Yellow attended, did everyone turn violent and start stabbing each other with their car keys?

By the way, if you taped this, please please please put it on youtube ;'D

Especially when you find out how similar it is to yours.

Congratulations! My best wishes for the years to come :-))))

"Tiffany, repeat after me: Ditto."

I LOL'd.

I don't know anything about this Tiffany chick, but if she went along with this for her wedding day, it sounds to me like you've found yourself a keeper. Congrats! =)

Congrats, Tibs! Well, I wish you the very best for the future ~ never go to bed angry, and remember all of the little things you do for one another. If you do forget, however, make a Lore (-1) check to...

OK that belongs in the "You know you play too much Arkham" thread.

hahaha, touche, Veet!

That's pretty awesome. If and when I get married, I'd have to settle for my lowly yellow sign lapel pin.

Congrats! May you never need a repairer of reputations!

Congrats, Tibs!

Also: NERD! Just tell me you didn't get married in Star Trek uniforms.

Congratulations. I hope you have great times ahead.

(by the way, Chambers was an excellent choice. Big fan :-)

Iä! Iä! Congratulations! I don't even dare to ask what shape your wedding cake had (if you had one)!

Congrats Tibs. I can't wait to take the dreaded wedding oath with my girl.

Congrats.

And many happy games....

Oh, would that I could have attended with a few non-believers in tow.

"What is that? That's horrible!"
"Naw. Where we come from, that's romantic as hell."

Want to echo Steve-O: if Tiffany was game for this on her wedding day, you are a very lucky man. If she suggested any of it herself...all Luck Checks automatically pass until end of game.

Congratulations to the both of you!

Thank you, everyone!

Yes, she suggested "lost souls" and "auspicious occasion." And I warned her twice that I was actually going to include "ditto." I wanted us to say two different things that conveyed the same message and this seemed like the funniest (and easiest) way to do it.

I did not say what I filled out the pages with. But she started to understand that it would be from The King in Yellow.

For those of you who haven't yet seen, I added pictures to the first post.

Thank you for the pictures and all the stuff posted. It's kinda moving (even if Avi laughs :-P). And your spouse has a wonderful smile :-)

Not to mention the fact that now Thelric can promote Strange Eons as utility for writing vows ::laughter::

I love that RSVP card.

That's an awesome story if there ever was one. Congratulations and the best of luck to the both of you.

The props you posted are really cool too.
