Next Career for an Amber Wizard?

By simpatikool, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Hey guys, so far my Amber Wizard has finally completed his career. I now have to decide how I want to progress into R2. A little bit about my character. There have been some hard lessons along the way, as for the most part, I have spent my 3rd edition career as a GM with very little time as a character. On top of that, my groups for the most part have been uninterested in the whole Wizard order. Inconceivable!

Anyway..for those willing to entertain my ramblings..

Kromaque has the stats

S - 4, T - 3, A - 2, I - 4, W - 4, and F - 2. I have pretty much what you would expect a Amber Wizard to take skill and spell wise. The only things different maybe Improved guarded position and cut and run. Cut and Run I selected primarily as another melee option to use while in beast form. I have one trait. The one that doubles your equilibrium regeneration.

Originally I planned on just sticking to the Wizard career, as, my dream is to one day get into Bear Form. It looks way cool (6STR!) However, as it stands that now I am on the threshold...It seems like it would not be a bad idea to dabble with hunter. It has a number of skills still useful to an Amber Wiz. (Nature Lore, Observation and Ballistic Skill (For Hunter's spear) as well as making it easy to improve my A so I could finally take Dodge! ugh. You learn the hard way!

However, these days I am intrigued by Rat Catcher. What an interesting combination for a Beast Form Wizard who digs Wolf Form. I basically have a pack of dogs running around! I just made such a poor selection when it comes to my starting stats. (Stupid Hunter's Spear. I was so enamored with that spell in the beginning)

A way I thought I could get to Rat Catcher with a 3 fellowship is Barber Surgeon. Of course, being an Amber wizard..I could care less about people, so I would dub myself Vetrinarian! But really, Vet, then Rat Catcher? Thats a long haul. I could just take 4 non career advances and then take Rat Catcher?

The reality is any divergence from the main path slows the progression towards the ultimate goal of bear form. Anyone have any sort of advice for a Beast Lord wanna be like myself?

I have to much free time today.

You don't have to actually finish another career, you could just switch for the few advances and then back to wizard. I'd probably just stick with wizard and pay the extra advance for agility, switching careers is going to cost a few advances extra (not sure how much wizard and hunter overlap, I suspect not much so it'll cost you even being a human) each time you switch, the advanced wizard careers shouldn't cost any extra advances, so that seems the way to go.

As far as ballistic skill I'd just take the talent (personally or on the party card) - unsure of the name sorry- that gives bonus fortune dice for untrained skills.

I'd move on to Amber acolyte wizard. I don't think it's worth losing your Order talent just to switch to hunter.

Plus, when you play Spires of Altdorf, you'll have more fun in the Amber college :)
