Resolving Simultaneous Effects

By ScottieATF, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

New player, in a new play group just needing to ask some questions regarding the order effects are resolved.

1. Player A picks Threats from the East as his plot, Player B picks Counting Favors. How do those plots resolve since either one will hit the draw cap

2. Player A picks A Time for Ravens, player B picks Threats from the East. Do you search then apply Threats, or apply Threats then search.

3. Player A picks Valar M., player B picks At the Gates. Does the Maester get put into play then killed?

4. Player A kneels Old Nan to give Renly the Raven trait. Player A then wins a military challenge in which Carrion Bird participated. Can Player B choose Renly to satisfy the claim, or is he shuffled to the deck first?

Welcome to the game! :)

1) to 3) The order in which "when revealed" effects on plot cards resolve is determined by the first player.

4) Claim is satisfied before any passive abilities or responses. Have a look at the timing flowcharts in the FAQ (available for download in the Support section of this website) for further details. It looks intimidating, but once you get a hang of the timing structure you'll be able to answer many questions that come up during play.

So plots are picked, choose the first player by the INT. scores, then he choose which plot to apply first? Or will it always be his plot that is applied first?

Ok disregard my last question I found the answer.

But regarding the action window say:

Player A kneels Old Nan to grant Player B Robb Stark the Raven Trait. Player A then wins a military challenge in which Carrion Bird participated, and triggers Carrion Birds Response. Could Player B then use his own Old Nan to take away the Raven Trait from Robb before he is shuffled back into the deck? Or would she have to use that ability before the Response was ever triggered.

Once the challenge has begun resolving it is too late for player B to trigger Old Nan. However, there's a player action window after defenders are declared and before the challenge resolution; he can use Old Nan's ability during this window. Again, have a look at the timing structure in the FAQ, and it should become clearer.

A note on determining the first player, just to make sure you are doing it correctly. The person with the highest initiative chooses someone to be the First Player. The initiative winner is not automatically the First Player.

after

Also, in this game, there are no "effect stacks" or chains to resolve. Once anything is triggered, it resolves completely before anything else can be triggered (with the exception of a Response that specifically uses the words "save" or "cancel"; these are the only effects that can interrupt another in the entire game.
