White border vs Black border cards...

By Captain Bulldozer, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Forgive me if this is one of those questions all the old pros hate to keep hearing from the newbie players, but is there any specific reason that FFG prints the cards on white borders rather than black? It seems like the first round of chapter expansions was done on black borders and everything else has been on white. I know it doesn't make a difference for game play or anything, but I've always just liked the black border look more than the white myself... hence my question.

I don't know the answer to this but I would think maybe the transition form CCG to LCG might be part of the reason. Maybe they decided to do it shortly after transitioning so that players could easily see what cards were LCG legal.

I remember reading some things about certain companies preferring white borders because you don't get the same kind of 'frayed' effect that black borders get if you knick the edges. In that regard it's more aesthetic friendly if your card borders get damage at all.

Personally, I would prefer the borderless design of Warhammer/LotR.

Yes, when FFG transitioned the game from CCG (all the cards had black borders) to LCG (cards with white borders), the A Clash of Arms expansion cycle was originally designed for the CCG and was legal for that format, but was released in the LCG format of chapter packs, and is also legal for LCG.

white border is best

White or black borders, it really makes no difference other than showing the change in card design between CCG to LCG.
