New FAQ

By Brine, in Mansions of Madness

They note that they will replace all known misprints in the first expansion.

Replacing the cards is nice, but the great thing is the confirmation that there WILL be an expansion!

Yay, replacements!

Also: Wait, what? Uncontrollable Urges: "This card can only be used *once* per investigator per turn"
Seriously? Once per investigator per turn? What about once per investigator per turn PER ACTION, as answered by Cory? *sob*
I know, that's a lot of "per"s and you DON'T want that in your rulebook (because people get confused) but... WHY?

I would imagine because the ruling that was previously provided by Corey is very difficult to strictly (and clearly) define in terms of the game's rules. When the errata'd card is released in the first expansion, what wording would they use?

The definite ruling as per Corey's answer would be "This card can only be used once per round per investigator per action".

But it seems like they'll remove the "per action" part and stick with "once per round per investigator" - complex enough for some gamers and specific enough for the rest. Rules changed because language = error prone or too complex :(

don't you think once per turn per investigator is enough ? (I think it is :-)

While I personally think it's enough, this issue casts a huge shadow on the "Rules Questions" feature.
People ask questions, get answers, only to see the answers changed in official FAQs one month later.

Don't get me wrong, I'm glad they put out FAQs and updates, but this appears to me that answers "Rules Questions" are just made up on the fly. One asks a question to get a quick clarification of unclear rules, only to see them answered differently - I ask myself, why did the answer change?
And, sadly, the only answer I find is that the initial answer given by Corey was without much concern, while the FAQ version was written after someone thought about the issue.

That said, I'm glad that there's an official point one can point to now. "Read the FAQ" is much better than "Well, one guy asked Corey once and he said that..."

You're only just realising this?

I hoped it's more like "Oh, you missread it that way? What I meant was XY" and not "Uuuuh... I'll go with 'true'".

I don't quite understand why the second printing has changes that the first printing does not.

Yer, if someone has the first printing, can you tell me are those issues listed for the 2nd printing actually correct in the first printing?

As I currently got the game (first printing, but with replacement cards) and checked the Erratas. Only the first issue (Uncontrollable Urges Keeper Action) is not mentioned but the other cards are all correct.
