For those of you who may have been on the old AT-43 forum there was a thread for using a metal tool box. The idea was to place magnetic tape on the bottom of the minis then stick them to the metal box. Now metal tool boxes are hard to find these days but the mag tape is not. You can get the positive/negative tape and make your own box. Home Depot/Lowes sells nice plastic "shoe boxes" for about 2 bucks each and they can fit approx 4-6 assembled walkers nicely with room for foam dividers. They stack nicely and fit on a luggage cart nicely as well. The tape can be glued to the bottom on the plastic box or can be ordered with adhesive backing. Either way its a good solution as the models don't rub on the foam and wear out prematurely. When I get time ill post a picture.
Ideas for carrying cases?
I love the Sabol cases. I also like the battlefoam products, even though I feel they are a little pricey ($60 for 3 pieces of foam?!?) and they won't sell you the single walker tray seperately.
For the tanks, I just use the original dust tactics box. Get some white thin 3/16 foam board and the box will hold 3X7 walkers. Like what Dakkon has done. For the troops I like the KR Multicase.

I like it Loophole. Very creative use of the box space and well done on the origanization.
I may just end up going with a rolling tool box since I am transporting my stuff twice a month.
For dust I use the original core box. 40k I use pistol cases for infantry and an Army Transport bag for armor.

Actually, I believe they will. I spoke with Romeo and when I created my custom tray he mentioned that they would sell them individually if that is what I wanted. You can't order them online separately (I believe) but you can call Kiran at the front desk and have her create your order (which is what I have to do anyway to get the armed forces discount).
I'll post pictures later tonight of the custom tray I created for extra walkers, and of the new heavy walker tray they are now selling.
Cheers!
I was also on there the other day and saw that they now sell Heavy walker foam with a spot for the axis one and the allied one. unfortunatly though I do not think you can get 2 of one type put in. I amy be wrong though. I amy have to send them an email and see if I can request this.
You can customize the trays for like $2 more than standard cost.
Here are pictures of the new Heavy Walker foam, and the custom foam I did for my extra walkers -- both from Battle Foam. Last I spoke with Romeo he was going to work on Heavy Walker foam that would fit two of each type, so two axis or two allies; between Vul-Con 2012 and business he might have gotten sidetracked.
Cheers!
I really wish they had a 3.25" circle option I'd probably order a set now if they did.

I am assuming you mean for a custom tray of just walkers, with which you could get eight or perhaps nine cut-outs instead of the seven I have on mine; don't forget to leave room somewhere for the turrets and such. I am pretty sure Battle Foam could handle that. Don't use the custom tray creator -- instead, draw what you have in mind on paper (to scale) and fax/mail that in for a price quote. BF can cut almost any size or shape, regardless if it is listed on the site.
Cheers!
KR Multicase has two custom Dust Tactics products coming out. They are $50 U.S. I know nothing about them other than running across them while checking to see if Dust Warfare will ever see the light of day.

You gotta be kidding me. A pice of rubber in some paper for 50$ each? ;/

Agreed, you can cobble together something very similar to that for a 10th of the price.
KR Multicase makes a nice product, and I have heard their customer service is good; the card board box is not just paper. I prefer Battle Foam, and their more resilient foam and the wealth of bag options; and they are closer to me here in Arizona.
True, taken by itself the price point seems high -- but not so much considering the business model; from what I can tell they charge what the market will bear. For myself, I find the product worth the price: I cannot easily duplicate the process, and prefer not to cobble something together; for the money I spend on miniatures, the cost to protect them (even if the initial cost seems hight) can be pennies per model).
These companies are catering to a specific segment of the market, and I post here just to let people know what is available. I have also seen some outstanding ideas created on the forum, where budget is a concern.
Cheers!
Criky, KR have shot up in price, I've a dozen of these cases plus aluminium ones, and they only cost me £20, £30 now. Their service and quality is exceptional though.
I'm not saying that's bad, just overpriced IMO
I've got KR card multicase, and I am happy with it. It's not some kind of corrugated cardboard, its a thick heavy duty card and Its durable enough, I am not sure but there might be problem with a spot where the lid hinges over time, but so far there is no tearing or anything . Some figures like grim reapers slightly stick out because of their poses, but the foam is very soft and I can't see how it could hurt the figure, compartments are big enough for heavy units.
I picked it up mainly because I couldn't find better value. It holds 108 figures on 3 trays. There is an option to get 72 troops and 4 mech foams or 36 troops and 8 mechs, but those are higher priced, and I prefer to hold my mechs assembled in a box anyway. I've cut circles out in few layers of thin cardboard glued to the bottom of box so tanks kind of slot in and separated them with some sponges. Still looking for something cheap for tiles and other stuff, so far I hold it in revised core set box, but honestly this box is the worse I've ever seen in a board game.
It was £23 + postage (UK). It helps out sorting minis and setup time went down for me greatly. The price for what it is is a little bit high I'll admit, but looking at other products I still believe this is the best option. Battlefoam charges £43 for foams alone !!! + £54 for a bag that holds 3 trays (76 minis and 8 tanks) someone correct me if I am wrong, or let me know if there is chaper way, other than making something by myself.
I am thinking about customising it a little bit, I will cut the photos out from the old point system cards, and glue them to the box , and one turned over card with dust logo
Soon I'll have more than 108 figures and guess what? I'll buy another KR multicase for them no doubt.
