By Toothless_Night_Fury, in Talisman

Uhh, just wanted to be number 100 posting on this topic gui%C3%B1o.gif

Well with any luck it will be at Gencon to purchase. I know for sure I'll be buying it if they have it available. Please, take my money!

And minehappy.gif Can´t wait for this expansion to be released. I think this is gonna be one of the best expansions so far. It sounds and looks so promising already.

Best regards

i agree with the wizard, that this expansion can become the best expansion at this moment.

It looks so great!

Can't wait for the upcoming news on the fantasy flight sitegui%C3%B1o.gif

Yeah, my hopes are high too. The Dungeon and the Highland were great fun, but essentially they're just new realms to explore. They don't fundamentally influence the gameplay, unless you count the "back doors" to the CoC. That seems almost incidental. The Dragon looks like there will be some sort of mechanic where you have to actually beat the Dragon King to the CoC...or else there will be a different endgame. This will add urgency and a different 'feel' to a game of Talisman, IMO. Don't get me wrong: I really like just adventuring around and then suddenly making a break for the middle. But this seems like the whole gameplay will be affected. I like that; it isn't just "more cards", as many FFG expansions seem to be. (Again, I like lots of cards, too - but it's not the most imaginative use of an expansion set).

Freaking finally. The upcoming expansion looks awesome. What does "third quarter" mean? Fall?

1st Quarter - January, February, March

2nd Quarter - April, May, June

3rd Quarter - July, August, September

4th Quarter - October, November, December

We are almost to the third quarter now, although I doubt that it will be out before late August.

Judging by previous first announcements and subsequent release dates, it looks like there's almost exactly 3 months between announcement and release. That would indicate it'll be available early September.

Well I hope the new rules will not hinder the players from roaming the board at their leisure and put pressure from the start to rush to the crown before the dragon do!
Some other players on this forum feel the same as I do and enjoy a good 3-4hrs game, sometime more....
Quick gamer would probably cheer where I would have to house rule when and where the rush with the dragon begin.
Anyway, all previous expansion has been great and the new mechanics that have been introduced by FFG have been utterly enjoyable and fresh, I feel they might outdo themself this time.

Cheers.

Agreed, as that's what I watch for too. Not interested in endgames or piles of cards anymore; me and mine want new "scenarios." Fingers crossed and waiting for them to pre-release the expansion's manual for a deeper preview.

Gotta say that I'm rapt with the new expansion. I'm looking forward to a new inner region & I'm keen to see how FFG have updated the original 2nd ed Dragon concept. Felicia Cano's artwork is up to her usual high standard.

I don't think that you need to rush through the game.

I think that the dragon lords are only invading the talisman world with their cards, and they have a challenge between them who becomes the new dragon king.

Maybe that the world of talisman becomes more dangerous from now on..

Do you remember previous FFG articles?

It is the Frostmarch, brought here across the northern waters by the Ice Queen. Armed with the Crown of Command, she is transforming the realm into a desolate, frozen wasteland.

Sounds quite similar to the newest, dragon tease, where the draconic influence is spreading across the land. I doubt there will be a game changing experience like fight against the clock, but rather a very solid, must-buy addition. Which will be surely great, can't wait for it :)

You could easily be right, but the inclusion of those 'token' pieces leads me to believe that there is some sort of different scenario that builds up after a certain amount of time or after certain actions. I suppose it could be as simple as having to use the 'dragon' version of the Inner Region once they take over...and it might be harder. Presumably if you are able to keep their influence to a minimum, it will go easier on you...but who needs easy? I like just adventuring around, too...but this might conceivably give the process a more definite purpose than just 'powering up' to get to the CoC. If it adds to a kind of narrative stream, I'm all for it.

You are right! And it is probably the same person who wrote both the Frostmarch and Dragon tease.

I certainly hope so, I can hardly conceive that FFG would go for a strenght 1,2 or 3 dragon?

All thing said, I am very happy that FFG listened to our (me,Velhart and some others....) wishing, begging for a sort of dragon tower.

We even get the "horrible black void" back...

Cheers.

Oh, yeah! I can hardly believe I overlooked the Horrible Black Void! I am VERY glad to see some hint of its return!

I played a game of Talisman today with all current expansions. The amount of stuff to setup and pack away is quite tiresome as is and the Dragon expansion with all it's little tokens might end up being a nightmare.

I may have to simplify and just run base game plus dragons to keep things tidy.

There are eight spaces indeed, no doubt about that. If you look closer you will see that the Crown of Command is a well defined space (a lighter line separates it from the usual Pitfiends space, which is also separated from the usual Valley of Fire). We do not see very well what's on the Valley of Fire and Pits but if my eyes serve well I notice that Plain of Peril is still there, that we have a Dragon-something Mine and a Dragon-something Crypt, that Dice-with-Death is replaced by a Blue Dragon sitting on a treasure hoard, that Vampire's Tower is replaced by a Black Dragon, that the Werewolf is replaced by a three-headed Red Dragon.

I hope there will be some new mechanic for all of this, but no doubt there are still 8 spaces. The only missing line is between Valley of Fire and Crown of Command, but perhaps is just a matter of image resolution.

Well, there's a surprise. Phew, it was getting pretty boring everyone fretting if Talisman had been dumped altogether.

I never had the 2ed Dragons so will be intersting, not that I have played with SP yet...

The chracters so far look like they have been pretty much lifted from the previous version. Roll 2 dice against Dragons people, Dragons only - not against everyone, that would be dumb.

Also, they have said that the new inner region is dual-sided. I would think that the picture that has been released is of the dragonification of the existing inner region, the brand new style inner region is still left to be discovered.

I agree with the list of characters, a bit easy to work out this time, glad they seem to be more significatly sized compared to the last lot.

My tuppence worth anyway.

Right, now where did I leave my wyrmslayer ??

Did anybody else see subtle hints that the Dragon expansion was coming?

Inside the Highland, there are more dragons in the Highland adventure deck than any other expansion and some of those like the mountain dragon and cloud dragon were lifted straight frome the 2nd edition dragons.

It is fairly apparent that some of those dragons from the highland might be reprinted for the dragon expansion. We have seen FFG do that before, reaper cards reprinted in the dungeon, frostmarch cards reprinted in the highland etc.

I don't call it lazy and reusing their own ideas, I see it as leaving clues as to what is coming next.

Not really..

This announcement was a big suprise!

I hope that a lot of dragon related cards from the dragon expansion is included

Sacred Pool did not have a single dragon reference inside and when I saw it, I though that dragon expansion will be next. Mind you, I did not consider big expansion , that was a complete surprise for me, but I was really thinking that next small one should have a fair amount of dragons. So in my opinion "the hint" was that there were no dragons in sacred pool.

Anyway, what do you think about the possible cards in The dragon expansion? Will it be just 3 different dragon decks suited for new inner region? Or maybe they will deliver those 3 decks and some adventure/highland/dungeon cards with dragons as well?

I think that you must draw those dragon cards in the whole land of talisman.

But the question remains, how those cards are activated and how the new tokens will work with the game.

Maybe that the dragon lord with the most tokens will become the dragon kingpreocupado.gif

I did not actually, but a couple of month ago or something like that I was secretly wishing that some kind of Dragon-based would either be the next expansion or follow closely. Looks like I got my wish. gran_risa.gif

"At the start of each or your turns, you draw a dragon token."

Wow...I hope this doesn't mess with the flow of the game. It already takes my crew 4-5 hours to complete a game. Sounds like a lot of fun. I love the fact that some of the spaces on the board will be covered with a dragon scale. That might push people into places like the middle region or the expansions a little bit more.

This is sounding better and better. This expansion goes the furthest towards really changing the play of the game. I liked the addition of NPCs in Reaper, something the old 2nd edition never did, and I love the progressive Dragonification here! I'm intrigued by the political dragon...sounds like he will be a gold leech somehow, thus adding a sense of urgency to gold collection that was never there before. If FFG puts out the City expansion next, gold might really mean something! And the Green Dragon seems like he will affect magic: will he suck spells away, or make them harder to cast? Wish it would hurry up and be released....who counts years in quarters? Does that start in January as usual, or is it some version of a Fiscal Year?
