Talisman: The Dragon Expansion - The newly announced expansion from FFG

By Toothless_Night_Fury, in Talisman

I like the fact that a Dargon Scale token turns a location to nothing until someone goes there and defeats the threat..

Adds great playablilty to the game.

Love the new mechanic... it sounds like there is always the need to do something instead of just pushing his own character to claim the crown of command. And this was happening after a few hours play... Now there is tension during every round and maybe new alliances will be created to weaken dragons as they get too strong. Some players will prefer the dragon with strength to be the dragon king so their strength based characters will have less trouble to fight him in the ultimate battle. But maybe strength based characters will try to enforce the political dragon who is not influencing the strength based characters weapons...

The new mechanic finely uses the potential of the board and creates a unique dragon story during every game. aplauso.gif

This sounds great. I for one support our new dragon overlords.

So excited about a dragon expansion. I don't know many people who DON'T love dragons. Hopefully the new expansion will get my friends interested in playing Talisman again :P

Overall, it is looking very much like the "scenario" structure some of us were hoping to see more of. It is definitely something "new" for the game versus reworked expansions of the past.

I am looking forward to see more previews from this expansion

I like the idea of the dragon tokens, and that they must be drawn at the start of your turn.

The dragons lord minions will punish the land, and i think that it will add more tension to the game.

I was only wondering about something. It is said that the dragon lord with the first 3 tokens becomes the dragon king. One of his tokens is then be placed somewhere on the board.... ( but how do we know where it must be placed?? where will it go to?

If one token must be placed from the dragon king to somewhere on all the boards, then he has 2 tokens left. If we draw more tokens, must they be placed immediately to somerwhere on the board, or do they go to the new dragon king..

I think that the other 2 dragon lords tokens will still be active when the new dragon king has been chosengran_risa.gif

Maybe that we hear more about it later...

Just wondering about this..

If i look to the varthrax dragon lord card, there is a dragon rage special ability on his card.

FFG told us that there is also a dragon rage token. So maybe that this has the same text, that would mean that there is a chance that we can lose followers throughout the game by drawing dragon rage tokens! cool.gif

That would be nice.

PS: Has someone also notice that vartrax has strength 14 on his character card instread of the strengnth 12 boss endings..

You can choose whether to attack vs 14 str or 10 craft, so thats not a big deal.

true, craft type characters will be happy with it, because they are starting with higher craft.

I saw that a other dragon lord (green one) has strength 10. he has probably more craft... i could not see it..

Anyway, with the dungeon expansion, you can easily gain a lot of strength, so that will not be a problem..

Just by looking at the three Dragon Lord cards, I'd venture a guess that one of them has strength 14 and craft 10, the other a craft of 14 and strength 10, while the third is somewhere in between.. I'd guess 12 strength and 12 craft.

Just a guess though.

I wonder how dangerous those new dragon cards are.

If they show up on draw 1 card spaces, i wonder what for effect they will have on a character, or how strong the enemies are..

Would be fun if a lot of strength 7 dragons show up on the mainboard.

I would run to the highlands, if my character is very weaklengua.gif

Oh, but the dragons are there too! gui%C3%B1o.gif

The land will be infested with dragons....demonio.gif

I can't wait to see the other side of the boardbabeo.gif

If i read the text on the production page about the dragon expansion, then you can also venture into the dragon tower, where you must beat the dragonkings minons, before you confront the dragon king himself....

That's makes me believe that there is a big tower on the other side with a lot of spaces, where you must travel to the top to beat the dragon king, as in 3th edition...preocupado.gif

I hope we can expect more news next weekbabeo.gif

I'm just hoping I can buy a copy at GenCon.

Hi

I have been looking a bit on the second post by FFG where they explain the tokens and you get a glimps of the dragon bosses. I hope there is more alternative endings than the included bosses because otherwise we will have 6 boss endings. Also I hope that they make the new inner region more challenging but not more stat requiring.

Because I would hate it if you no longer can try and go for the crown with 9-10 strenght/craft and hope you don't draw a boss ending. Right now when we play a 4 man game with all expansions (usually we either play with wither dungeon or highland) it takes about 2-3h which I feel is a good timeframe. If the game would start to take over 3h gets very drawn out and people start to loose focus.

So all in all I really hope the dragon expansion adds more challenge and action to the game without prolonging the gametime.

Those boss endings are a bit different than the normal endings.

I think you should choose to play with the dragon expansion or with the alternative endings

The Dragon lords have their own game who becomes the final ending card.

PS: you can possibly skip the dragon lord endings, and just using the tokens and cards in the game...

Cool!

The dragon tower looks awesome!

It's not the same as 3th edition, but the board looks very good

I like it that you must fight your way forward by moving 1 space., and that you are pushing back if you lose a combat etc.

I am only wondering which dragon lord deck you need to draw in the dragon tower.

Perhaps the one that has become the new dragon king?

From the looks of it, it has draw 1 and draw 2 card spaces? nice!

Let's draw some dragons!

So once you get past the Portal of Power and work your way past the inner region squares, you flip the board over to proceed up the Dragon Tower...right? If so, how do the other players move in the inner region when the board is flipped over? The news posted on 7-15-2011 does discuss other players having a chance to catch up to the player that is ahead of everyone else.

Just wondering, but pretty excited non the less.

Also-FFG - Thanks for the Runewars expansion as well!

It seems that you must decide which inner region board you will use at the start of game gui%C3%B1o.gif

I agree with V., though it wasn't fully clear in the latest news. The board overlay looks like a nice and more convenient variation on the 3E tower. The new posted explained the problem well (though only one of several problems the tower had), and it was good choice to go for the flip board. Hopefully the non-tower side has something more than just a change of art.

This expansion is holding my interest firm. Now we need to see a PDF of the rules to clear up some of our more detailed questions.

You can't play both sides, you naturally have to choose which side you want to play at the start of the game: the new "Dragonized" Inner Region or the Dragon Tower. You can't play both, so there will be no flipping of the board mid-game. Either you decide on playing the new Inner Region with the new spaces and rules and whatnot, or the Tower.

I wonder if there will be an alternative rule to use new board / new cards, but not use tokens and not use dragon endings...

This way a game could be treated like an expansion and not like a huge alternative scenario.

It seems that you must use the tokens to activate those dragon lord cards.

I think you can´t play without them

But you could use a house rule to use a alternate ending instead of playing with the dragon lords endings

Anyway, this is a dragon expansion, and it´s different than a normal expansion like the reaper or sacred pool.

You could always choose for not buying this expansion:)
