Sorcery aand Primaris Psykers

By lordc447, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hey guys :)

Quick question: Primaris psykers can take an ability (Untainted Core) that allows them to ignore one modifier to their rolls of psychic phenomena (may be perils instead/as well; sorry, but I don't have my rulebook on me). My question is this: Can they use untainted core to avoid the +20 from the sorcery psy bonus? If so, does this negate the bonus psy rating from being a Sorcerer?

Thanks for any help you can provide! :D

Untainted Core
Some Primaris Psykers can create a calm around them within the warp, stilling the raging energies that they must channel in order to use their powers. These skilled individuals are almost impossible to disrupt, disturb, or cut off completely with the use of warp witchery. Once per turn, the Primaris Psyker may ignore the effects from a single source that affects either his chances of invoking the perils of the warp or rolls he makes on the perils of the warp table (including psychic phenomena). If affected by multiple sources of disruption, the Pysker must choose which to ignore at the start of his turn. Note that this ability does not overcome sources that block psi powers, such as Untouchables, but only those that disrupt them and make them more unstable.

i imagine this would affect anything and everything that affects chances of invoking perils - there's no reason to believe it wouldn't affect the sorcerer disadvantage - probably wouldn't affect the advantages though - on ambiguities such as this the GM has the final word - i would recommend having a look at the RT rules for sorcery + the 3 lvls of power usage - tho the rules are slightly different it'll give a pointer to the kind thing that should happen

That is a really good question and an idea I may grab myself for future use. If GMing, I would allow it. The "one source" bit does mean the character is "spending" their resistance to adverse conditions on one thing so they're more affected by outside factors.

Thanks :D I'm really looking forward to using sorcery, just don't want my mind to melt utterly and completely every time I go for something other than fettering :)

I don't think I would allow it. The description of the "untainted core" ability seems to imply that your inner purity allows you to bypass some outside interference. The risks caused by sorcery is inherent to it. You are drawing power from the warp using occult means and you always pay a price for it.

Anyways, I feel that Sorcery should always have a risk. If you're drawing power from the warp using sorcerous means, there should be a price. The warp is fickle.
