You mention something about inspiration. I'd say Hellboy (the comics) Indiana Jones (1-2-3 and the russians in 4) are very tannhauser like.

I know both Hellboy and Indy sports Nazis, but it doesn't really matter if they're nazis or not, they don't do a lot of nazi stuff in either Hellboy or Indy, so they could just be occult german megalomaniacs. (Heizinger looks a lot like the guy in indy 1)

I am going to watch the movie "outpost", it looks like it could be interesting in terms of Tannhauser as well.

Yes Helboy and Indy are definate sources of material, and I wasn't trying to exclude anything, just add somthing many people may not have heard of.

Perhaps my choice of words was not the best.

Outpost is another good choice I hear, I've yet to see it.
