Base game scenario question...

By JLM2, in Tide of Iron

Hello. I'm new to ToI (and forums) so apologies in advance for any breaches of etiquette etc. I am new to wargaming (come to it via Axis & Allies: Battle of the Bulge) and purchased ToI based on various web reviews. I have read that some of the base game scenarios are unbalanced. I was wondering which scenarios are regarded as particularly unbalanced (and to what side) so that when I am playing with my cousin (also new to wargaming) we'll have some idea about how we're going.

I did look around the web (and these forums) but have not found the answer to this question yet. If this topic has been dealt with I'd appreciate the link. If not I'd appreciate any comments.

Well, I think its fairly widely felt that the "At The Breaking Point" scenario is unbalanced. Given the objectives it's difficult if not impossible for the germans to win.

In general the advice I would provide you is that coming from the games you've played you may need to adjust your expectations on what constitutes a win. In many of the scenarios the Germans get their asses handed to them regularly. However the "win" condition for the Germans in half of the base scenarios is to hold out just long enough (fight a delaying action) as opposed to smash the American force.
