Alternative board?

By azoic, in Talisman Home Brews

We are playing Talisman for a long time. We started with the 2nd Edition (all official expansions),and sometimes we played the 3rd Edition (all official expansions). Now we only play the 4th revised Edition (all official expansions), and some Home Brews. Talisman changed a little bit over the years, but the main board is almost the same.

We tried serveral changes with the main board and we liked the versions with more possibitlies to draw cards. That means we use some additional spaces in the outer and middle region. What do you think? Has anybody played with an alternative board too?

We haven't tried increasing draws and probably won't, as we're not really interested in trying to make the game play any faster than it does. Faster is not better. If you're interested in some possibilities for easy try-out, adoption, or rejection, head over to TalismanIsland.com and pick of the Space Expanders card pack, created by a group of brewers who used to hang out here. [Maybe you were one of them?] You can also find at my game blog's download page (see my sig). Some of the space mods we use are represented by cards in there, such as: Darkest Knight, Horse Trader, Desert of Faith, Market Square (along with some extra new Purchase Objects).

There's lots of notions in there created by a group of people who used to hang out here. The cards are used to temporarily / permanently change certain spaces for a game without having to modify the board or remember what changes were made where. There's even a way to use them randomly so the board's a little different from game to game.

There is also a three card 2.0 update which includes two cards that we now always use: Dark Portal (for the Dungeon) and Passage of Fire (Valley of Fire). The latter is the way that space should have been done from the very beginning for its namesake and to make a Talisman more than just lip service. These cards I've displayed below. You can right-click and Save/View to get the 300ppi printable versions, though you should check out the full 1.0 package for its documentation as well.

Hey, luckily our Alternative Board has an optional Inner Region Board. The normal Inner Region is printed on the Alternative Board, and a new Inner Region version is on a separate board, like in the new Dragon Expansion! So hopefully we can play with our newest Alternative Board, without any changes!

Hmm... you got a picture of that? It would be interesting to see.
