Mind Cleansing and the Ascension Transition Package

By Grinnenstadt, in Dark Heresy

As I am new to the FFG Forums I thought perhaps some of the more experienced bloggers might know of any previous threads dealing with the following topics. My current character is a Mind-Cleansed Guardsman who is nearing Ascension. As our group started as Rank 1 Alcolytes, our GM has been discussing expanding on the Transition Packages described in Ascension. Here are a few questions to get the discussion started:

How does the Mind Cleansing process work? Pg. 11 of the IH describes the process as a combination of psycho-viral, mimetic and telepathic intervention . This description seems vague at best. Anyone know anything more about the process?

My character might be Re-Mind Cleansed during the Transition package. He has access to a Psyker with the Telepathy Discipline as well as access to Hypno-Indoctrination Equipment. Would this be sufficient to erase some of his more traumatic experiences?

As part of the Cleansed and Purified Transition Package which removes Corruption, would a Re-Mind Cleansing be appropriate?

Are there other threads pertaining to the removal of Corruption? My GM has explained that it would have to be done through Faith (time spent with the Adeptus Sororitas undergoing Ritual Prayer and Flagellation) or through Technology (time spent with the AdMech undergoing Genomic Therapy). What other options might be available? Not sure if Flagellation would work as my character has the Feels No Pain mutation. ;)

Thx for your feedback.

The last page of the free Dark Heresy supplement "Heed the Higher Call" is all about mind cleansing. Well worth a look! It's on the support page.

I take mind cleansing to be a general term to describe a number of different processes that have at least superficially similar goal. Memories might be physically removed, altered or buried depending on technique, aim, time and resources available. Having a telepath and hypno-indoctrination equipment sounds more the minimum required.

Multiple mind cleansings are certainly possible and used. An NPC in one of the published adventures uses servants who are described as regularly mind wiped.

I'm sure there are other threads, can't recall any off the top of my head though. I know insanity has been described as being reduced by contemplation of varying sorts, corruption is a harder thing to remove in general. Surgery to remove and replace physically tainted flesh perhaps.

In the RH, they have fluff about an Assasine who seems to be "wiped & re-fed" on a regular basis, so I think multi-wiping is possible.

Back in the very old TableTop-games, it was described that mind-wipe was used to clean Spacemarines from their memories of encounters with daemons. This was because they were to valuable to be simply killed (like it was the standard with regular troops after the mission). But this case of "multi-wiping" might have been retconned a long time ago.

All in all I would not count on the fluff to provide more insight then you already got yourself. The topic is vague at best.

Personally, I "wiped" mind-wiped from the list of potential starting packages and instead turned it into a tool for getting rid of IP and CP (with the risk of loosing INT and/or WP).

And everything else. Mindwiping isn't something that should just be done to get rid of some Insanity or Corruption Points; you're talking about a severe and dangerous process meant to expunge the individual's original identity and possibly replace it with a new one.

If a player came to me with the metagame intention of getting a mindwipe of convenience to remove some drawbacks, I'd take his character sheet and hand him a crisp, clean sheet with nothing but stats on it and let him start his character all over at rank 1.

Point well taken Jack of Tears. I had no intention of "metagaming" to remove drawbacks, if fact I really like the drawbacks my character has, they give him so much character . ;) The question remains: would you consider a Re-Mind Cleansing as an appropriate part of the Cleansed and Purified Transition Package when the character makes the leap from Alcolyte to Throne Agent?

personaly i would have too say no

your personaly was wiped clean the only thing you remember is what you have done between then and now.

here you come with hey i don`t remember anything from befor sept for some fant flashes of memory but i`m oke if you cut more brainstuff out of my head so i`ll remember even less! realy?

if you realy wanted it or in this care more likely your inquisitor realy wanted if then maybe but why would your charater want too remember even less then he does now?

and true total mind wipe is full of danger, you might come out of it a drolling moron with no skills. and that would be a waist of talent
