Wear Armor Mastery

By ElricOfMelnibone, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

Having run Anima for a year now, I came up with a couple home-rules and wanted to discuss them within the forum.

Actually I've invented a "Mastery" for Wear Armor as well as for the other abilities.

Simply put, upon reaching 200 Wear Armor, a character achieves "Mastery" in it and accesses the following bonuses.

He can reduce armor penalties to Swim Secondary Ability up to half.

Example: A character with 200 Wear Armor, wearing a Full Heavy Plate will suffer "only" -90 to his swim ability.

He can reduce armor penalties to Stealth Secondary Ability up to a quarter.

Example: A character with 200 Wear Armor, wearing a Full Heavy Plate will suffer "only" -45 to his stealth ability.

If he has enough wear armor to annullate all Armor Requirement + Natural Penalty of BOTH armors AND 20 spare points, he may cancel the FIRST -20 Additional Layer penalty.

Example 1: A character with 200 Wear Armor is wearing a Full Plate (Armor Requirement 100 and Natural Penalty 50) and a Complete Leather (Armor Requirement 10, Natural Penalty 0). The sum of all penalties is 100 +50 +10 +20 = 180. The guy may wear those without any penalty.

Example 2: A character with 200 Wear Armor is wearing a Full Plate (Armor Requirement 100 and Natural Penalty 50) and a Chain Mail (Armor Requirement 30, Natural Penalty 15). The sum of all penalties is 100 +50 +30 +15 +20 = 215. The guy may wear those suffering a -15 Penalty.

Example 3: A character with 215 Wear Armor is wearing a Full Plate (Armor Requirement 100 and Natural Penalty 50) and a Chain Mail (Armor Requirement 30, Natural Penalty 15). The sum of all penalties is 100 +50 +30 +15 +20 = 215. The guy may wear those without any penalty.

If someone reaches a value of 300+ Wear Armor, he may also cancel (provided he has enough points) the SECOND -20 additional layer penalty.

Example 1: A character with 300 Wear Armor is wearing a Full Field Plate (Armor Requirement 150 and Natural Penalty 70), an Armored Longcoat (Armor Requirement 0, Natural Penalty 5), and a Complete Leather (Armor Requirement 10, Natural Penalty 0). The sum of all penalties is 150 +70 +5 +10 +20 +20 = 275. The guy may wear those without any penalty.

Example 2: A character with 300 Wear Armor is wearing a Full Field Plate (Armor Requirement 150 and Natural Penalty 70), a Chain Mail (Armor Requirement 30, Natural Penalty 15), and a Complete Leather (Armor Requirement 10, Natural Penalty 0). The sum of all penalties is 150 +70 +30 +15 +10 +20 +20 = 315. The guy may wear those suffering a -15 Penalty.

Example 3: A character with 315 Wear Armor is wearing a Full Field Plate (Armor Requirement 150 and Natural Penalty 70), a Chain Mail (Armor Requirement 30, Natural Penalty 15), and a Complete Leather (Armor Requirement 10, Natural Penalty 0). The sum of all penalties is 150 +70 +30 +15 +10 +20 +20 = 315. The guy may wear those without any penalty.

That's how I work it out. Just gives a bit more meaning to pumping Wear Armor beyond normal limits (which is very possible for a Weapon Master and/or any character taking the Use of Armor advantage from the Game Master's Toolkit). I'd also like to think of something for 320+ (Inhuman) and 440+(Zen) Wear Armor. Probably 320+ might allow to entirely remove Stealth penalties and reduce Swim Penalties to a quarter and 440+ might remove Swim penalties, but Inhumanity and Zen would be required to reach such values in Wear Armor.

Thanks for any comment.

Honestly, I like these rules. I've got a weaponmaster in my group that would love it if I started to follow something like this. (I can't remember the #s offhand, but he's able to wear partial plate without any penalties at lvl 1.) I'd imagine that continuing to pump points into wear armor would allow him to wear something like Full Field Plate to the point of mastery like what your talking about, just as a natural continuation.

Normally I am reluctant to just take other peoples house rules from forums. But I think this sounds really good.
