Princes of the Sun availability

By JohnRReynolds, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Hey, anyone know when the revised 180-card edition is going to be available beyond the vague Q3 that FFG lists? That could be early July to late Sept.

Thanks for the info, glad I didn't wait before ordering more stuff from Coolstuffinc.com earlier today (Queen of Dragons, Kings of the Sea, Forging the Chain, the two resin cards, and some card holders).

Remember though, FFG release dates are kinda liquid. So keep up to date. I'm a little bummed, I just ordered the 2 of Martell Box like 3 days before they announced the reprint.

The dates that TTGN posts are the accurate ones. Closer to the date they also post up the exact distributor release date when the info becomes available from FFG.

My friendly local game store has a copy of Princes of the Sun available currently, but I'm so impatient to get the Martell house that I'm tempted to grab it. Can anyone provide me a link or tell me how the reprint will be different from the original?

Thank you in advance! :-)

Reprint has 3 of each instead of 2 of each card.

The reprint should come out in August and will contain the same cards as the original edition. The difference is that the reprint will contain each card 3x, whereas the original edition contained each card 2x. I have serious self control issues myself, so I fully understand your situation, but it's advisable to wait for the reprint, because you WILL want three copies of many of those cards. Unless, of course, you don't mind forking over the dough once now and then again two months from now. Another option would be finding a game store that sells half sets of PotS. Are you located in Europe or North America?

Hi Ratatoskr,

I'm in North America. My friends and I are very new to the game so all the multiple copies for the purposes of duplicates hasn't completely settled in yet. They had played a few times before I played with them, and I just started about 2 weeks ago.

We play loosely and have not considered any deck construction yet. Therefore we are still learning several rules, game play modes, and styles.

If you haven't played constructed yet, then the old set is actually fine. What I'd recommend doing is buying the original version, splitting the contents with your friend (as well as the price) and that will give you both the equivalent of a Core Set deck (with some very slight tweaks if you feel the need, I never did), for joust or melee play.

Then if in August you guys are really loving the game and want to go from "board game" mode to "LCG mode" you can buy the new set if MArtell is going to be your house of choice, or if you (like me) want to be able to build any deck for any house at any time. You and your friend could actually split this one also if you really wanted, either one of you paying and receiving 2/3 of the set, or each getting one third and drafting the final third.

Personally I'd go ahead and buy it... then buy the 3x one in August. Martell is too fun to play to skip it.

Thank you very much for the replies. My brother and I will be splitting the current set for now and if we decide to become more serious at some point, we can grab the reprint.

I appreciate all of your advice!
