fiery followers and game of chivasse and other questions...

By thorin_81, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

1) It's Summer and my opponent has a fiery followers knelt (they stand if an event card is played and it is summer). I decided to play A Game of Chivasse.

What does happen? Will Fiery Followers stand and then can be used to win the "a game of chivasse contest" or the event has to resolve completely and only after that Fiery Followers will stand?

I think it's the second hypothesys, but my opponent doesn't agree with me.

2) Where does Forever Burning go if it is countered by, for example, Paper Shield? I think it goes to the dead pile because, even if unsuccessfully, the event is played, and in the rules is written that a card with Deathbound goes to the dead pile when it is played (it isn't specified if successfully or not, but could have missed that).

Thanks and sorry for my poor english

The Fairweather Followers standing when an event card is played is a passive effect. All passive effects happen after the thing that activates them is done, over, and resolved. Using the timing structure, Game of Cyvasse is played in Step 1, it resolves in Step 3, and Fairweather Followers stand in Step 4. So your second hypothesis is indeed correct.

Now, look at it the other way. If Fairweather Followers are standing when the event is played, you can kneel them for the event, then stand them by their effect after the event resolves.

Deathbound
Cards with the “Deathbound” keyword are
placed in the dead pile whenever they would otherwise
be placed in the discard pile from play.

Event cards with the Deathbound keyword are
placed in the dead pile only after they are successfully
played from their owner’s hand. If
the effects of an event with the “Deathbound”
keyword are canceled, that event is placed in its
owner’s discard pile.

thank you so much.

And yes I made a mistake... I was talking about the taragryen army, not the asshai army, my badgran_risa.gif

Somewhat related question to Game of Cyvasse, can a Targ player jump an ambush character in and kneel them for the card, or must the character be knelt before any other "any phase" actions can be played? An example - it appears you have no characters with intiruge icons available, they kneel a refugee, and then you drop in a Dragon Thief to prevent a card being returned to your hand. Is this possible? Or likewise, they kneel a 3 strength character, you kneel a 2 strength character and ambush in a flame kissed to reduce the opponent's character to 1, allowing you to return a card. Can this be done?

No. If you want to ambush a card you must do it as your action opportunity. Only responses can be played as a response to action (hence the name).

Once someone plays an event card, you can't do anything other than "cancel" it or "save" against it before the effect is resolved completely.
