What kind of trait manipulation for Targaryen Summer Dragons?

By Shenanigans8, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I'm putting together a Targaryen Summer/Dragons deck. I don't have a decklist yet, but the basic idea is

- Summer (Kings of Summer, Black Raven, Carrion Birds, probably Samwell and Gilly)

- Dragons (multiples of the three new QoD "grown-up" Dragons, the new hatchlings)

- some Summer synergy (Fairweather Followers, Maester Aemon, Dragon Sight),

- a touch of burn (Flame-kissed, FIeld of Fire, Forever Burning, )

- Dragon/creature synergy (Field of Fire, Dragon Bite , At Night They Howl, QoD Dany, perhaps some of those new Dragon-buff locations)

- the usual Targaryen attachment shenanigans (Xaro's Home, Dany's Chambers, Red Warlock, Kraznys, Shadow of the East, Meereenese Brothel.)

- Ambush, Influence, Initiative (Kingsroad Fiefdom, Red Keep, Ambush from the Plains, Dragon Thief)

So with the Dragon trait being key to this deck, and some Carrion Birds bouncing around in there as well, it would seem that trait manipulation would be nice. Songs of Bael the Bard seems like a pretty sharp plot for this. Blood of the Dragon is shiny, but very pricy. Old Nan out of house is truly versatile but might also be too pricy, especially when I'll be running more influence than gold. What about Rhaegar's Harp? It's versatile but could cause problems, e.g. my Fairweather Followers are now a Dragon and can attack with the others for maximum effect, but they're also vulnerable to anti-ally hate. I was thinking that some of the new Maesters with Copper Link might work nicely. Targ certainly has enough attachment manipulation to get/get back the chains and Advisor to the Crown is something I'm already considering (for the influence) or the Oldtown Scholar in the latest pack might work too. Apprentice Chain might be a bit too much, and getting the Copper Link's attached character to kneel reliably might be tough too (side note: can you kneel an influence source if you have nothing to spend it on?) I'd consider an out of house Maester (of the Sun? Cressen?) with that new Maester finding plot also, but that seems like it might be a it unwieldy. Running the core set Aemon might also be advisable.

So here are my main questions:

1) What kind of trait manipulation would you recommend for this deck (if any)?

2) What do you think of the ideas for trait manipulation I've proposed, particularly the Maesters/Chains?

3) Any thoughts on the deck idea in general?

Thanks!

The Alliance agenda with some Lannister might be useful. Campfire Mime gives you a cheap bicon with all the traits of your other characters, Maester Creylen is an amazing draw engine and can take Copper Link, Pycelle is a slightly less amazing draw engine and can take Copper Link, and Lion's Gate is solid trait manipulation for anyone with power on 'em. Alternately, just run the Alliance plot/Oldtown Ravens and drop the Mimes.

1x Abandoned Fort OOH can be used to deal with pesky CBK/CBD characters like Beric. Leyton Hightower will make your Maesters immune to opponents' events and attachments.

Cressen can be knelt in Marshalling to discard a Condition attachment. Give him a Copper Link and you can discard your own Milk from play, give the previously-milked character the Ally/Mercenary/Refugee trait, play a 1-cost character, get Milk back if you have Dany's Chambers, Dissension the pesky character, and play the Milk on another character.

I think you should put the deck together with no trait manipulation initially. I have the feeling that with everything you listed it is going to be a full 60 cards even before you addin the trait stuff.

Meereen is awesome, Astapor is pretty good too. If the deck focuses very heavily on Dragons, the new Daeny is pretty important. Blood of the Dragon is a 3-cost Condition attachment... no way. I am SO tempted to say use Balerion if you are using Summer and Myrish Villas, but I'm not going to. Window's Watch OOH would help you get dupes for the three big Dragons, cause using 3x of each Dragon and 3x of each Hatchling will leave you with little room in the deck for other characters.

Huh? Am I missing something here?

I misspoke. I thought Creylen drew cards, but he claims power. Still a strong card.

Yea i agree with Darksbane, with everything you listed i think your deck is going to be 90 cards

In retrospect, I think you're right. :)

So I have an additional question.

4) If I plan on running that Targ burn favorite, Threat from the North, is it advisable to leave out Samwell and the Carrion Birds, and probably Street Waif? If I include the Long Summer, Street Waif will be fine, but the other two are still up the (frozen) creek.

I wouldn't leave them out just b/c you are using TftN. Carrion Birds can collect themselves from your discard pile, and Sam is a staple of Summer draw, you can always try running 2x and not playing the 2nd one until after your Threat. Another Street Waif can also get them all back.
