Revised Edition

By Ru-Doragon, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

I was just wondering, has anyone heard any rumors about the revised edition of Anima being translated and released? I was just really curious to know if that or any of the other Anima books are going to be translated over. I love this system so much, and really hope that it keeps growing into something amazing!!

There has been no news of the Spanish version of Core Exxet being translated. Then again FFG doesn't normally make announcements until after the book is translated and sent to the printers.

FWIW my guess is that FFG will follow the Spanish release schedule, with Those That Walk Among Us next followed by Arcane Exxet and Core Exxet.

Core Exxet isn't really a revision as much as a reprinting in any case. There have been some tidying up in the rules (most can be found online) but the existing books will remain 100% compatible with it. In fact the new art is probably the biggest change IMO. As such, I am guessing it won't be as big a priority as new material.

You'd think the relatively few changed would mean it get translated faster, but nooooooooooooooooooooo. llorando.gif

Mayor changes in revised edition regard Magic (now you have 5 levels at which you can cast a spell each with increasing effects, Zeon cost, and required Intelligence), characteristic checks (now you roll a D10 and ADD your characteristic and must reach a certain value), and Character creation (now you choose at creation 5 secondary abilities which gain +10 per level, but bonus from this AND from natural bonus can never exceede 100, so you tend to have higher average secondary abilities, but also to spread your points since you can't add tons of natural bonus on a single secondary ability).

Right now, I believe I prefer the old character creation system. As for the characteristics checks, I don't do a lot of them during my games, so it's almost uninfluent to me. As for the magic system, I prefer the new one, but the Illusionist of the party I'm mastering would probably break in tears if I told him to change his magic system (we had to translate everything for him from English...and now we should do it again...from Spanish...and this is his first RPG experience...I really don't think he can stand that).

There are of course minor changes around the rulebook. For instance, the 3CP version of Natural Learner (Single Ability) giving +30 to a single secondary ability per level was abolished, and for good, on my opinion. Also, I believe that Acute Senses was improved and Daimah were nerfed (although there, I'm using the first version stats...). There is a new way of categorizing weapons based on size (small/medium/large). Small weapons have lower penalty for additional attacks (penalty is now -20/-30/-40), while large weapons can get more opponents with a single Area Attack (3/4/5 respectively). There's a Style Module by the cost of 50DP which lowers by 1 "slot" the additional attack penalty (Large weapons make additional attacks with -30 and medium weapons make them with -20, small weapons get no benefit).

I believe I've told you enough as of now, but if you have any other question, don't hesitate to ask.

Oh, by the way...confronting the Spanish (1st ed) rulebook with the English one, I discovered that Duk'Zarist (purebreed) have +5 Regeneration and not +4. That was confirmed in 2nd Ed. Just to let you know.

Wow, thanks. I was hearing a lot of information about a revision of the magic system, and that was very interesting for me. I was semi interested about the skill system changes, though I'm not as sure that I would be as excited about it. I guess I'll just have to wait patiently for the next few books. I'm really excited and interested in seeing much much more to the Anima setting. I love this game, this system is so amazing and it is the closest thing to the type of system that I have been wanting for so long.

I hope you understand that detailing every single spell is impossible to me (they really are a multitude)...

Anyway, another very interesting feature of Anima Core Exxet (the Revised Edition as it was called) is that it details the effects of most secondary abilities when you make your rolls. I found particularly interesting the Medicine Check to treat wounds, but also the Feats of Strength, Withstand Pain, and Composure ones. It also details modifiers for Disguise rolls (like time and instruments you have for disguise).

Ah, just another useful piece of info: Arcana Exxet expansion is already Revised Edition, BUT there is a web supplement (the third), in Spanish, that tells you both how to translate some stuff from Dominus Exxet and Los Que Caminaron con Nosotros to Revised Edition (the few things that need translation, actually).

The most interesting feature of that Web Supplement, by the way, is on my opinion the fact that it tells you how to translate rules from Arcana Exxet to the FIRST edition. This is very interesting because usually game companies prefer not to translate new stuff to previous edition rulings in order to "force" people toward the latest edition. The fact that Edge Entertainment offered an opportunity to play newer stuff with the old rules is a real demonstration of customer service, actually allowing players to choose freely between the two (very slightly) different systems.

Now if only they'd translate books faster.

It is worth noting that the new expression for spells is simply having 4 set Zeon expenditures for each spell. The math is the same. So its slightly quicker but its less flexibile than the existing version.
