I'll just take the horse

By Morfedel, in WFRP Rules Questions

Seriously... there isn't a cost listed for horses, anywhere? So, we have a Ride skill, but no means of actually USING the ride skill?

Or is it published elsewhere? I looked at the FAQ, Living Index, web searching / googling, and so far, nothing (except house rules). Of course, that's not even counting that we have no game mechanics information for horses either. But at least something to use the freakin' riding skill would be nice.

Or, am I missing something? I JUST bought the core box a week ago, but still....

It's in Omens of War, with the riding rules.

Wow, that's... that's ridiculous. sorry, including a skill called "riding" in the core set with ZERO rules to go with it, and making you buy another suppliment just for the freakin riding rules to use a skill from the base set?

Wow. I mean, don't get me wrong, from what i've seen so far, I really like WFRP 3e, but... that's just ridiculous.

Most of the skills in the core set get by without specific rules for them. It's all covered by the core system.

I could describe the ride rules in two paragraphs and you'd probably say, "That was disappointing. I could have done that with just the basic rules." And I'd agree (except with the disappointing thing).

I think you'll find that this game doesn't have a specific rule set for everything you can do in the game. It's been a thing in game design for the last 10 years (it's a big feature of d20 and the like), but this edition tends towards a more open, old-schoo way of handling things.

So, what's the price please? :)

Draught ("Draft") Horse: 75s [Plentiful]

Riding Horse: 2g [Common]

Warhorse: 10G+ [Rare]

Then there is the cost to of tack, house, and feed (at 20-25 pounds of food a day it adds up REALLY quick!)... but that is another story!

All that would be true, if they had just included the cost of a horse. Is that supposed to be a more open old school way of handling things too?

Is this official, or a house rule while waiting for OoW?

Those prices are official, from the book.

Not to necessarily disagree with your main thrust, but istm 'old school' is the sort of game where there is exhaustive lists of equipment for just about everything and 'new school' would be the sort of game where you can hand wave this sort of thing. Or maybe I'm just too old and new school is the new old school.

Anyway if you want a humungous old school-new school wfrp price list (in the old 20/12/- money system) you could do worse than this:

The only thing you get from OoW is official horse prices. Nothing in regards to riding was missing from the core set. The core set already explained how height advantages could give fortune/misfortune dice, så nothing was missing.

No problem, Jay! For all that you have done for the community, I relish every little chance I get to pay you back a little. :) Sorry about the bad grammar that snuck in at the last bit... Poor editing on my part! LOL

Which Book, OoW? If so, that's an unreleased product, and as such it's a price on the list that should have been in the core book in the first place, much less waiting so long.

As for the old school discussion, that wasn't really me that brought that up.

Frankly, I was less concerned about rules, I can ab-lib that. I wanted the prices.

Yes, thanks for those prices. Appreciate it.

Yeah, OoW. It's in the shops now.

It is? Amazon.com lists it as not having been released yet. That's weird.

Amazon is the absolute worst place to get new-ish roleplaying books in any system. They tend to lag months...months...behind the release schedule. I think Omens of War is even available to some of our more far flung community members in the umlaut countries and beyond so check your local game store.

Additionally, if you are just interested in the official two pages of mount rules and don't want to spend 50 usd you can always download the booklet of Omens of War from RPGnow or DriveThruRPG for 5bucks (same thing if you want the Khorne fluff book)...but you can't get any of the cards that way.

Where are you based? I'm in the UK, and mine from www.gameslore.com turned up two, maybe even three weeks ago.

If you're US, I'd suggest you could get it easily elsewhere.
