Encounter cards on the Portal of Power

By Rianane, in Talisman Rules Questions

Hello,

We encountered a situation last night that raised some questions. A player on the Castle rolled a 2, moved to the Portal of Power and announced that he was attempting to cross to the inner region. He failed in that attempt and therefore his movement ended on the Portal of Power. Does the player now encounter the Portal of Power space as per normal, that is to say, in the same way they would have if they had rolled a 1?

TY in advance

Hi,

I understand why you're asking: in case of a failed attempt to cross the Portal, the space says that you remain here and lose one from that ability. "Remain here" is not clear, but if you go through the Rulebook and read the Portal of Power explanation at page 19, it's clearly stated "If unsuccessful, the character’s turn ends immediately on the Portal of Power space." No chance to encounter the space.

See? And I even read the rule book *again* last night and still missed that. Thank you.
