Stopping a Martell Summer Deck

By rwjohnson, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

So it seems like Martell Summer (or Martell in general) is the hot thing right now. I'm curious how people are countering these decks (if at all)? I imagine a lot of people are not going to share their secret sauce just yet, but does anyone have any tips? Paper shield is a must for burning on the sands, unless of course they're using Shadow of the South (how can you stop/get rid of that, BTW?)

Any other tips?

Another Martell Deck ;)

King's Law stops Shadow of the South. Trait manipulation + Jorah's Cohort can discard the Raven. Carrion Bird can shuffle it back into their deck.

I'm just getting back into AGOT, so I'm not familiar with the specifics of the deck type.

What Houses do you want suggestions for?

I really like Targ at the moment, I really dig their burn effects and the ambush stuff is fun to drop in for a surprise. Their weenies are easy enough to deal with, but characters like the viper's bannermen are a little tougher to control. I've been working on my own summer deck, but with all of the burn attachments/events I have trouble slotting in events like Paper Shield or the Hand's Judgement. I added the dragon pit to strengthen my burn (flame kissed, forever burning, and now the new field of fire) so hopefully that helps out. I think some solid 2-claim plots could help out, and probably a whole bunch of stealth.

Meereenese Brothel will help get rid of the Taste for Bloods and VBs, and Milk is probably still the best option for handling RV. I've been working on some other weird combos for him - Vale Rookery (yea, I actually may use Rookeries in some decks) into Valar, then play Marched to the Wall next turn to discard him with his dupes and attachments (cannot be saved, gets around opponent's Power of Blood, works on Bara too). This would be total garbage if it didn't allow me to play Valar outside of the plot phase and avoid the two-gold zero-claim. Rookeries are actually useful if most of your plots are "When revealed..." and if you have room for them in your deck. Everyone on the forums will disagree :)
Not that I'm advocating any of these strategies, but here's some ideas...
Valar Dohaeris is good against RV - get some weenies out and dont make any challenges (or stealth him) so opponent cannot use him for defense.
Sun Stroke is good against any deck that wants to keep uniques in play - adds a "cannot be saved" and the option to kill the character any time your opponent gets too aggressive.
Horseback Archers cannot be stealthed.
Pyat Pree.
Fairweather Followers will probably stand back up a lot if you are facing Martell Summer; add a Shade of the Evening for repeated search/draw each round.
Aegon's Hill... absolutely brutal if you can drop it in setup or Round 1.
If you think its necessary, Targ Summer allows for some extra attachment control if you are using the Crown or Kraznys.
Threat from the North is still Targ's best friend. Fear of Winter is not , but Martell probably hates it just as much.
