Astropath weapon talent confusion...

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been posted before, I have searched and could not find this issue resolved. Here goes.

In his starting gear an Astropath starts with a shock staff (common) or a mono sword (best) but has no weapon use talents and, with the errata can not learn any till rank 1, Weapon Training (Primitive) for the mono sword or rank 3, when he can buy Melee Weapon Training (Universal) for the shock staff.

No my knowledge no other career has a weapon on the starting gear without the skill to use it included for free or available to purchase at rank 1. Does that mean the Astropath should loose the shock staff option or be able to buy Melee Weapon Training (Universal) or (Primitive) at rank 1.

hmmm, I think that Navigator also receive a staff without the proficiency, and Missionary can have flamer without the proficiency. But indeed, there is an errata stating that Astropath's melee weapon training at rank two should be deleted.

True the Navigator and Missionary do not start with the skills for those wepons for free, but both can buy those skills at Rank 1, the Astropath can not use his shock-staff till Rank 3.

He can still use them, but he'll be a total kluz with them. Afaik he takes a -20 to each ballistic/weapon skill test where he is not proficient with the weapon in use. Astropaths aren't generally meant to be great fighters :>
