OK who placed the Elder Seals?
The world didn't end

You mean you *think* the world didn't end. You might be in one of those The Sixth Sense situations.
I don't know, but there are probably a lot of very angry people who want to claim this guy as a monster trophy.
What if the world got sucked into Hell and nobody noticed the difference?
Then it wouldn't be Hell, right?
I read some people sold everything and their homes expecting the end or whatever it is they were expecting. Makes you wonder. I hope they don't have any children, but I'm afraid some of them do. That's scarier than the Innsmouth look

Levity aside I do know that many of them had kids. I read about one family who had 3 teenage kids who no longer have college funds because of this. Lots of people no longer have retirement savings and a few people lost pensions when they quit jobs.
Public Service Announcement: The end of the world does NOT mean that you should cash in your IRA. Just because you can't take it with you doesn't mean it has to go.
PSA two: if you tend to put faith in insane people, you probably tend to make poor choices in general. Life is full of the insane, so tread carefully.
In other words, you brought it upon yourselves.
The deluded and the gullible deserve our pity not our scorn. It's a shame no-one had the wit to quote Matthew 24:36 which would have shot down any talk of foreknowledge of Armageddon in a flash.
So, this is obviously going to happen again in 2012

People have. He's responded with several other verses which he twists into meaning that Matthew 24:36 applies to something he calls the "Church Age," which is over now, and basically says...if I'm recalling correctly...that no man can know, but God knows and He can tell whoever he wants, and has done so through secret messages that He knew we'd eventually figure out. A person who is skilled enough can twist words to mean whatever he wants, and unfortunately, holy texts of religions are no exception.
All I can say is that I hope that those who had their lives shattered or indeed shattered their own lives as a result of this man's predictions will find peace and comfort, and be able to rebuild. As a Christian myself, it disturbs me whenever I read of something so closely connected with my religion that brings such distress. It is a terrible thing when beliefs are twisted into something that ruins lives, whether through war and violence or manipulation and deception. Even if this man was definitely not part of the church proper (indeed, he's predicted that anyone associated with a church when the end times come will face spiritual annihilation for denying that the hour can be known, and such), he used our beliefs to delude and confuse many people.
We need to realize that all this thinking about the end times is not what a Messiah who gave us the commandment to Love One Another would want. Whether you believe in Christianity, Buddhism, Islam, Wicca, any other religion, or indeed none at all: what we need to be doing is loving our neighbors, doing good to others, loving our enemies, helping people, and making the world a better place. The end will come when it comes...we need to stop trying to figure out when that is, and put that effort to a better purpose: caring for others.
It probably will come up again in 2012...there will always be people who focus on the end times, unfortunately. All we can do is try to guide them back to their lives and help them pick up the pieces.
Well said, Sdrolion.

Matthew, pshht, never let a biblical quote get in the way of one's doommongering.

That's what I keep telling myself, but it turns out that sane people are useless when it comes to AH rules questions

;'D I'm just going to assume that that applied to everyone but me.
Apparently it did end the other day - but spiritually, instead of physically as predicted. The world is now in a period of judgement and a final end will come in October. At least that's how the guy who made the prediction explained his mistake.
At least they got Gears of Wars out before the world ended - no one predicted that!

Yeaaaah... It never ceases to amaze me how people can be so stupid and so wrong, but still not have any self-doubt... But don't worry kids, this time the world is really really going to end, daddy promises.
Which incidentally reminds me of this... Ugh. Just ugh...

actually, i read one of the books they've published out of interest. he's not a man skilled enough to twist words to mean whatever he wants, he's just a pseudomathematican obsessed with numerology. he, seriously, "realized" that some numbers were used a lot by god in the bible (number 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13 .. see a pattern here?) and one proof that they were indeed holy was that you could construct other numbers from them.. he basically found out about primes.
having read the book, i predicted he would make his new date the october 21 one, just as the 1994 prediction became the day the church age ended silently instead of the actual rapture/apocalypse. i do not know what they'll say october 22 though..

God spared us! It's a miracle!
Oh Lord please don't burn us
don't kill or toast your flock
Don't put us on the barbecue
or simmer us in stock,
Don't bake or baste or boil us
or stir-fry us in a wok.
Oh, please don't lightly poach us
Or baste us with hot fat.
Don't fricassee or roast us
Or boil us in a vat,
And please don't stick thy servants, Lord,
In a Rotissomat"
Veet, did it occur to you that mythos cultists actually pray for those things to happen to them?

Yeah I know. It's just Avis comment brought to mind that scene in "The Meaning of Life" and I couldn't find a video clip of it.
