basically what happened was sunday our scout says that at one of the other stores, there is the air patch tourny wednesday, I work nights, and my brother offers to build a deck for me (since I generally don't have time to build during the week) so he comes down with a list of cards, and I start tossing numbers down on it, he heads back up, I start to fall asleep, realize that there are other cards I want to run, so I head up and tell him cards and numbers. wake up, grab work stuff for after the tourny, get to the store, get handed a double deck box "yea your deck takes up both sides. it was around 150 ish cards. fist round, against a mill chester the guy more or less says "holy hell, are you serious? this is going to be the worst matchup here for me..." as I was getting the attacks/actions/assets mixed with the foundations. went 2-0-2

oh, i get that chester's worst match is any deck that's 20 cards larger, give or take a few, but... what am i trying to say here...
"decklist pleeze!?"
or better yet, just numbers - how many attacks/actions/assets/foundations were in this thing.

get how you owned chester, but how did you get the cards you needed to win, air is agro so it's hard to just stall. you gotta be able to draw your kill cards. did you muligan every came? did your deck ever cycle?

unfortunatly my brother as soon as he got home took the deck apart and he doesnt know where the list is. I asked him for it as soon as I posted in the morning.

The stupid thing about Air is just how good it is.
While many folks just went for Kitty Spike / Lord Of the Makai - there are a pile of viable options for Air decks.
In the two different decks that I built for the air deck, no card was repeated between the two decks, so there was 120 cards, and neither deck used Chesters, Lord of the Makai, or Feline Spike. Seeing what other players used in their decks, there was a pile of different cards that I didn't bother to use that others did.
Add in 4 copies of cards like Fight for the Future, and with just one in play, the ability to draw into what you need just becomes silly.
I can honestly see how a 150ish card deck *could* work for this event.

I know, right? The hardest part of the Air event, moreso than any other, is both picking a good character (there's lots of options for characters that are both fun AND extremely competitive), your win condition (LOTS of those), and what foundations and stuff to run (lots of amazing stuff there, too).

So lets stop and think about this for a second.
A normal deck runs between 10-15 attacks in a deck normally.
In a 60 card deck that makes between 16-25% of the deck attacks.
This was a 151 card deck running 46 attacks.
30% of the deck was attacks.
Lets look at the top 5 decks from the event:
1st- new Chun Li (with something like 150ish card deck) <Winning Deck>
2nd- sweaty guile <Prolly 26 Vitality>
3rd- Andrew olexa <19 Vitality>
4th- mill chester <23 Vitality>
5th- self commital/draw taki <26 Vitality>
Is this a top tier deck that will win the worlds? Not really.
Was it the best deck at that event, that day? Yep.
Just finished our Block 3 Air Patch yesterday, and new Chun-Li took it as well >_<
My Adon deck kinda screwed me again, but at least it didn't do as bad as at Swindon. I came out with 1 draw, 1 loss and 1 win.
1st game was Nemesis's Yoshitora, who proceeded to iSpin lock me game 1. Without his foundations, Adon can't play his Jaguar Thousand, and therefore kill his opponent. However hitting two Knee Gatlings was fun, even though I milled out. 2nd game I decided to go a little more aggressive and repeatedly sling Rolling Buckler Uppercuts at him. Once he was wore down, my Sonic Boom EXTRA (the only one in the deck) finished Yoshitora off before time was called.
Kyle (Zangetsu) was my 2nd opponent - running Disney Vega with Tiger Fury. Vega's probably my worst matchup as Adon's a speed freak, and Vega punishes speed. 1st game I vow not to play Jag Thousand after screwing up last game, but my smaller attacks have no luck against Vega's damage reduction, and second game I didn't draw into any attacks, so I ate Tiger Fury and then Rekka Shin Ken (it's got Powerful:2) in respective games.
Of course after feeling down (I had also been working that morning, so I wasn't exactly in the best of moods anyway), I was glad to be facing Theo with his Felicia deck. So Spike was the card to look out for - good thing I had (unintentionally) packed lots of high blocks! 1st game lacked any attacks to kill, so when finding myself with no setup, Spike came and beat face as per usual. 2nd game I stacked some momentum with Knee Gatling, and survived a Spike long enough for Theo to fail the oncoming Tiger Fury. With him overextended, I read the Jaguar Level on my scouter... and you know the rest.
3rd game against Theo was the highlight of the whole event. I got setup pretty early, with Chinese Boxing taking control of his foundations, and I also got about 20 momentum. Theo tried to sling an early Spike at me, but I took the opportunity to block, reverse with Adon's ability... with a JAGUAR THOOOOOUSSSSAAAAAANNDDD! for clear over 40dmg!
So yeah, although things got off to a bad start, it wasn't a bad Patch event for a change. I just wanna get Void over with so we don't have to do these restricted format Patch events any more. Also, I HATE Tira's Contract. Totally despise the thing.
OH YEAH JUST FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO THOUGHT THE HANZO KICK LOOP WAS TOO FRAIL, GET THIS!
MY AIR EVENT WAS LEGACY. I PLAYED HANZOKICK AS A COMPLETE BLOCK 3 DECK AND STILL CAME SECOND. HAH.
Oh and sorry to hear that Son gopaul.
Third place finish with my Yoshitora deck, just barely being knocked out of second by Cody, with Olexa taking first place. Fun games - I would have walked home the winrar if I'd checked a 4 on my last card of the game (lolblocks) instead of a Clean Freak. I suppose it's payback for the turn 2 Feline Spike (my only copy, at that!) =/
Today I learned that 'tora is stupidly good, better even than I thought. We also learned what great tech The Way of the Maya is in an event ripe with Multiple, and Healer/The Harder They Fall in an event also ripe with Powerful.
But I think my favorite match of the day was against Adon, though - a single game that lasted the entire round (and a little extra beside). It was filled with ups and downs; first I landed my patented iSpin lock to lock him out of the game for 4 turns, and then I subsequently stopped drawing any attacks at all (or Tag Along) in order to get them back. So we spent about 5-6 turns each just building, by which time there was no longer any point in trying to eaet up all those foundations. Unfortunately, Adon then started drawign attacks - Criminal Uppercut, assorted throws and Multiples, and so on. I somehow went from my full 26 vitality to 1 in a single turn...and then managed to cling to life through another 3 turns of heavy attacking, finally drawing an iSpin and gaining vitality (and more attacks!) with iSpin. And another turn later, I managed to survive MORE attacks, tapping my opponent out, and leaving him with two cards in hand and at 9 vitality. He failed the block against Mark of the Beast and the last card in hand didn't have a block, allowing me to take my revenge by hitting him for exactly 1 damage with Clean Freak >=]
I also didn't take a Resolution Through Force -> Final Destruction/Criminal Uppercut to the mouth on any of my turns, so I consider the day to be a great success, even without obtaining ze patch.
And we also got a new player today =D

All I ran was
4x iSpin
4x Mark of the Beast
1x Feline Spike (played all of ONCE, and as a T2K at that, LOL)
I used EMAO to copy Chain Throw and Northern Lights Bomb, but I would typically play an iSpin followed by three Mark of the Beast. Easy to push through when they have no ready foundations.

because more or less all groups want to rush to the next block to feel special.......... and if you try to play standard {block 2} decks you get "oh why are you still playing those stupid/broken/old cards? It's been block 3 since worlds." *has been forced to block 3 or gets above sentance after playing/checking any standard block cards* **currently hates block 3, new nako support did not help either...**

Block 3 is godawful right now. It got a bit more manageable with set 11's release, but either way it's still pretty bad. I flat out refuse to play block 3 format right now.
Anyone that says "it's been block 3 since worlds" is flat out WRONG.
Why so much hate on block three?
At any rate, I haven't done an air event yet, much less even build an air deck.
the main reason I'm playing block 3 is because I figure I might as well get used to not having certain cards or characters, otherwise I'd be playing promo Alba + Arrogance. I pretty much hate legacy for the fact that Yoga Mastery and YWNE just make events not fun for me.
sucks that your group is like that though. they're totally wrong and you're allowed to play block 2 as standard until march
