That won't happen, nobody from FFG reads these forums which means your concerns won't be noted Kris, you might be better off sending an email or letter to them at least it will be read, 50/50 chance of a reply though. I don't think Kris is being disrespectful, he loves the game (as do we all) and wants it to grow and is giving his views and idea's, there is nothing wrong with that.

see MM , thats part of the problem . these are not just MY ideas or views , FFG has some of the same ideas , but apparently no incentive to actually put them into practice though , which is sad since most dont actually take any real effort to start up and keep going .

they do actualy read the forums , even though they dont respond to them , so even though i know they wont reply , i atleast know they were read .

and though i'm sure my spot is gone because of this thread , i have watched other people go on with their projects and postings , biting my tongue , and holding back on my projects , so i am ok with sitting it out , since it means no longer waiting for replys that dont come and wondering what is going on .

the only difference between playing on a table top , and playing on a table top with a grid , is a grid . using the grid takes the place of templates , and tape measures , thats all .

just releasing table top rules wouldnt change anything if they keep treating this like the board game it isnt .

QFT. The grid system is old, oh so old. It actually predates hexes from when they were moving from miniatures to counter based board games. Not a problem there, it makes for something fast and fun.

Now, what I will mention is that it took me about fifteen minutes before I even had the game, after excavating some data about the size of the qrid squares and reading the downloadable rules to make up a skirmish game using 40k. Same trick, movement of one, two actions, phased movement, each square is equal to 3" of weapon range, etc. Just toss the D:T shooting and assault rules and use regular 40k shooting and assault.

Kris is right about this site and info, remember what a surprise it was when somebody on the forum told us Cyclone had Submarine tiles, which then gotus excited about it? And what about Gears of War I've just seen, no pics of all the mini's you get in that.

And yes, they need to hit the wargamer market to advertise and not the boardgamer. I only found out about the game by fluke, never saw an ad and couldn't find it in wargames sections of websites. This is a wargame, not a boardgame.

QFT again! I picked up on this by accident from a stray comment in a forum. IIRC about what to do when you are the first person at the LGS waiting for someone to turn up to play a game of 40k.

Is the thread abusive? If so, where? If not, then the line reads "the customer is always right". The question to be asked is do the players want D:T to take off and become widespread phenomenon where they can play wherever they go? Or do they want to be stuck playing with house rules with the little trickle of stuff that FFG lets out?

Do you not understand that the background potential for D:T is huge? There are entire classes of troops and vehicles that could be introduced into the game without much trouble and for some profit to FFG. Just as long as they don't demand to be able to reinvent the wheel and push their own personal WW2 soldiers and regular tracked tanks. It might just be out of their depth to think that big, but oh well.

The customer is never right otherwise most of us would still be playing 40k bc its balanced and the rule wouldn't be as screwed up as they became. We would have a lot video games that don't suck.

This whole thread reminds me of BoLS or Dakka. Can we please get some threads of substance? How about some strat/tac threads, unit analysis, house rules, how to's?

but guild thats what I got a blog for. lol

yea agreed I just like putting my 2 cents in before I'm gone for 2 weeks.

IMO I think the problem that FFG has is they are to big with to many products and probably not enough people to assign to each game. This is why I was a little bumed when I heard AEG was giving this game to FFG. If you look at the bigger companies in this industry they have maybe 3 main products that they push and therefore they have the personel to back and support their games. FFG has got to have 50-75 different games that they support, so they are to big to make this game what we want it to be.

Maybe Paolo should have tried to produce the game himself and give it the attention we would like to have seen.

but guild , thats part of my point . all we have here are forums , so any how to's or unit analysis threads get lost fast .

other companies actualy get up and get moving , and do things like pay attention and post stickies and present articles and all manner of things that add to the experience , and thus promote the game .

presuming that the staff at FF has working fingers , hands , arms , they can do similar . i'm not suggesting they all of a sudden start up an online magazine like rackham tried to do ( which sucked) , i'm not suggesting that they produce a print magazine like privateer press and games workshop do ,

they have a website , and having thier web designers just go in create another tab on the DT page , labled "articles " and post links to articles about tactics and how to's , and all the other stuff , puts it all in one place , and promotes the game .

publishing articles by community members like bigwill who actually play the game and work of game apropriate content promotes the game .

posting pictures of player creations actually promotes the game .

actually creating stickies for important forum posts makes them easy for new players to find , and actually promotes the game

participating in conversations here and on other sites once in a while by FFG staff promotes the game .

having a forums page is nice , but it only really works for regular posters who come here often enough to see a post before it gets burried . anyone new to the game , or any one looking for an answer isnt gonna find it unless they sift through several hundred threads , with potentialy thousands of posts .

I think this is an excellent idea. By having a permanent articles section containing articles and posts on tactics, analysis and how to's give legitimacy to Dust Tactics as a tactical wargame and separates it from FFG's stable of boardgames. As of now, most people view FFG's games as simply boardgames and DT is just only one of those. FFG really needs to differentiate DT and markets it differently if it really intends DT to be what we hope it to be.

And yes, posts do get lost in forums. As I am new to DT, I am still in the process of digging thru this forum to find any nuggets of treasure. It would sure help if some effort can go into making it easier for newbies to find info and good stuff here. After all, the community here is assisting FFG to bring the love of DT to all and FFG only needs to catalog the useful posts and articles, a good bargain for FFG in my opinion. I really hope someone from FFG is reading this.

RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE RABBLE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AND I CALL SHENANIGANS !!!!!!!!!!!!

AND I HAVE JUST POSTED ANOTHER BLOG AT BGG , FOR THOSE INTERESTED , EASILY ACCESSABLE THROUGH THE LAST LINK IN MY SIG.

Excellent article. Can I suggest that your next articles be about stating out the rest of the vehicles armour, hits, speed etc.

thnx . i will add that in to the special abilities stuff for next week .

an interesting side note ...........................

reading up and looking over all the articles about weapons and calibers , brought up alot of mention of specific vehicles and cannons and such . now i am an axis player because i live in a military town , so there is alot of gunghoness , so there are more allied players than axis players .

reading about some of this stuf made me want to buy a few allied walkers , so i could build a few custom allied walkers with some of the things i found while researching the weapons . un fortunatly , they would just sit on a shelf or get ebayed :(

Great article, as usual.

I´m amazed at the dedication you put into your hobby. Please keep sharing with the rest of us!

thnx

if FFG wont show some enthusiasim for the games they sell , well then its up to cutomers to take up the slack , and do what FFG should have been ready to do from the start .

plus , having the charts lets people stat their own redblok , so we can get some more ruskies playing out there .

getting this weeks blog out of the way so i can do some work on terrian and other stuff .

so its up , for those interested .

, it would be nice if FFG showed some enthusiasiam for this game .

with the move FFG has made to do away with the basic point system all together , expect about 99.9%less enthusiasiam and dedication on my part , i dont see the need to play and promote what will become a WH40K ripoff .

i posted another blog , but its just about the points issue , i will post something new in a couple 2 or 3 weeks on scenery building , no need to rush since the game is going down hill .

@ Kris:

I don't see how this has become a WH40k rip off at all. It's not even in the same setting/background. The units use cards, it's not an "I move my army," "You move your army," no army books, no cheesed units, and certainly the price D:

Have to agree here. No matter what your take on the tourney points system, it's certainly no reason to go around crying that the sky is falling. They are just tweaking the game a little.

This is hyperbolic and overly dramatic. Like or hate the new points system it is only one aspect of this game and how it plays. FFG would have to make many, many bad moves for DT to be a 40K ripoff
