“‘And now,’ said the wizard, turning back to Frodo, ‘the decision lies with you. But I will always help you.’ He laid his hand on Frodo’s shoulder. ‘I will help you bear this burden, as long as It is yours to bear. But we must do something, soon. The Enemy is moving.’"lotr-lcg-faq-icon.png

The road is perilous, and countless dangers await the unprepared. But today, guidance has appeared. The FAQ for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game (pdf, 964 KB) is now available on our support page!

From the Council

Below is a word from lead LCG designer Nate French:

Version 1.0 of this FAQ document is a player aid that was assembled with the intent of enhancing the experience of The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game. This document is divided into three sections: Card Errata, Rule Clarification, and Frequently Asked Questions.

  • lotr-lcg-aragorn.pngThe Card Errata section addresses specific, individual cards. In some cases, you will find a note here that explains how a card works, such as the entry on Thalin that explains the timing of his effect. In other cases, we will use this section to correct individual cards that are creating problematic interactions in the game, such as the errata on the Nazgûl of Dol Guldur. We do not take instances of such errata lightly, and will do our best to keep its necessity to a minimum, but occasionally a situation arises where we feel it is for the betterment of the game to correct a problematic card interaction. In this case, we did not feel it appropriate that players could capture the Nazgûl with a Forest Snare attachment, thereby avoiding the climactic encounter of the Escape from Dol Guldur scenario, and we have used the FAQ to address this concern.
  • The Rules Clarification section focuses on broader concepts, clarifying and explaining rules points that affect the game as a whole. This section should be seen as an extension of the core rules document, providing guidelines that can be applied to a variety of situations that may occur during gameplay.
  • The Frequently Asked Questions section is a collection of the gaming forums, or at The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game events and play sessions. It is a convenient place to find answers to the most common questions that are asked about the game.

Finally, it is worth pointing out that this FAQ is a living document, and that, as the game evolves, we will update these entries as necessary to maintain a clear, enjoyable game experience.
