new to rpg

By ikovalyov, in Dark Heresy

Hi guys.

I'm totally new to rpg and d&d and the only things I know if a few comix and picrutes about roleplay. But I really like the warhammer 40k universe and I want to try to play it with my friends.

Can you please help me to select what items I need to buy to have everything for good playing?

Thanks.

Hey there, and welcome to the hobby. ;)

I'd say the Core Rulebook and the Inquisitor's Handbook (available via amazon, directly from FFG, or from other shops online and offline) are all you need for starters. The other stuff is pretty specialized and really depends on what/how you want to play. A bunch of dice (d5, d10 and d100, available in hobby stores or the internet) are mandatory as well. Other than that you pretty much only need some paper and a pen. And a bunch of people to play with.

The Core Rulebook comes with an explanation about roleplaying in general and in the Wh40k setting. If you have any further questions, feel free to take a look around in these forums here.

Hope this helps!

First-

Welcome to the boards!

Second-

The Core book is a good first book to buy- got everything to at least start a game.

Then The Inquisitor's Handbook, if only for the added gear, alternative skill rules, contacts/Alter ego rules and alternative Ranks/Origins.

Those are good for players and GM alike and with those you can run a solid game.

Others that are recommended (I use them sparingly) are the Radical's Handbook (other Ranks/Origins and game ideas) and Creature Antema (Monster book)

Ascension is also an ok source for high-end gear and to expand your game when your players gets thier career path completed.

thanks for your help.

I'll try to follow your advices :)

I tend to think the Inquisitor's Handbook is over-rated. It is certainly not a minimum requirement to play the game. After the Rulebook , the book that I have found most useful is Desciples of the Dark Gods . Tons of good adversaries and plot ideas in that one!

Welcome to a whole new world Ikovalyov.

The ABSOLUTE BEST PLACE to start with 40K role playing is right here on this website with the free demo adventures. It works for FFG because I downloaded these which grabbed my interest and I have since shelled out on the (rather pricey) Dark Heresy books which wouldn't have happened otherwise.

The Dark Heresy demo is Shattered Hope and can be found here:

The Rogue Trader Demo is Forsaken Bounty and is available here:

I say again THEY ARE FREEand have enough of the rules for you to get an idea of what is going on, have great sample characters, and a decent adventure. There is also one for Deathwatch but that would not be a good place to start for someone new to roleplaying because it is a much more 'specialised' game.

I don't know about Black Crusade because that's just not my thing, following Chaos is HERESY, ZAP ZAP ZAP!!!
