thought to organize a place to post all quality community created characters.

By teammadrox, in Talisman

i have been into talisman for about a year and a half, id say that i've played between 20-30 games. i appreciate all of the games strengths and weaknesses alike, and more than anything i want to see the game continue to produce expansions.

with the release of the reaper expansion, i have begun to crave a more broad spectrum of characters to randomly select from. i have seen a large number of very well done community pieces that have been made. its got me thinking, as a community could we pool them together in one place? starting by posting links on this thread that lead to groups of completed characters, making the process of downloading them easier? i had hoped that a page like this already existed somewhere, and if it does i am sorry for the repeat, but i have been unable to find a central location for some quality res pics with a plethera of images.

now it can be said that everyone will not always agree on who should do what, but multiple copies or versions of the same characters could all be posted to please everybody. i would be interested in collecting the images, sizing them to print correctly and placing them someplace where people can easily get to them likea myspace fan site (giving credit where necessary) for easy downloads? any thoughts?

Lastly, is there a good template that someone has created already? i keep looking and i found some fonts to download in a zip to match the texts but thats it?

so if you have time time, all you need to do is dump some links here. ill try to organize them and put them in an easy to access place to download and print?

thanks for your time n' stuff.

okay after a lot of searching, i was able to find the good template. with that, ill be able to add a lot to the community over time.

In general, I think Talismanisland.com already fulfills a lot of what you're talking about. Not much yet on 4th edition (though I haven't checked) but with time that will grow as well.

Talismanisland does have a great site for community created content, but I don't think it'd be redundant if you have a site dedicated to custom characters, especially if it's presented in a way that's easy to navigate, search, etc.

More support for the game, the better! gran_risa.gif

TI is a great site, and the yahoo groups are good too, but I have to agree the more the merrier!

Post the link when you have it up.

If people who post to these forums were agreeable I could always make a forum specific page to display items posted here.

It would take about 30 seconds to prepare the page, but you have to remember that sometimes people post "works in progress", so any image snagged would not necessarily be the up to date version.

i would say that the fact that many people will not be able to agree on how a character should be, can be a good thing. it would cause a number of "variants" so people can choose the one that they feel is the most balanced for their game to print. I will be doing the artwork for some of the ones that im working on, and each drawing will have an existing, easy to aquire miniature to acompany it. the first one that i make from scratch will be the farmer. ill throw them up when i have a few to post at once. i also tweaked a nice looking minotar i found.

Talisman Island is my go to play for Talisman stuff.

TI does a great job with it and if that were the community go to site, I'd be very happy. That said, anything I create I tend to post on Boardgamegeek too. So I wouldn't be adverse to a site dedicated to "Custom" Talisman stuff.

I'm also wondering about the term "Quality" in the original post? What's the criteria of judgment (thereby implying criteria of creation)? Much as I do use guidelines and examination of mechanics in all I create, in the end (other than for the power hunger), game play is the only way to tell if a new card actually works without throwing the game further out of balance.

Just to mention that I've posted the first bit of Revised 4th Edition content on Talisman Island.

Bludgeon kindly send his Scrolls (translated into English) for me to post. His other creations will be appearing there soon as well.

If anyone would like to have their cards or other content featured on the site, then just send it on over and I will stick it up on the site.

Oh, and by the way, I've stuck a page up featuring Crow T Robot's fabulous 3D board too. It can be accessed via the Features Index pages.

Enjoy!
