Defeating a kneeling Lannister deck

By Carella2, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

I would to build a deck to thrash my boyfriends Lannister deck, he's built it for kneeling and its annoying lol

I'm new to playing and havn't got it all figured out yet, but tired of having my ass handed to me by him.

Is ithis going to be possible? and which house is best to look at for it?

None of my friends play a Lannister kneel deck, so this is speculative, but Lannister Clansman will frustrate him some, I imagine.

Also: "Cannot be Bribed, Cannot be Bought", especially if you can find a way to recurse it :)

I think a Targaryen Ambush deck would be useful with characters like the queens knight, dragon thief, horseback hunters and the dragons popping in during the challenges he wont have a chance to kneel them before you use them.

Running cards that stand your characters like distinct mastery is a good way to go about it.

Try a stark aggra deck. put out more characters than he can kneel. forget duplicates and attachments. no good to you if they're knelt with a character. Fear cuts deeper than swords to deal with lannisters annoying nasty events. frozen solid for his brothel. throw in some night's watch with The Wall. a catelyn stark LOW. maybe deepwood mercenaries to get rid of his gutter rat and writ small attachments. some knights with immune to character abilitys. go locations on setup, put your characters out first marshal, if it works that way. give him iniative 1st round to avoid his informers . this gives you a chance to get ahead with characters. and yes distinct mastery. i like the martells if the opponent is playing lannister intrigue. punish them with house dayne reserves, darkstar and a norvos location. they'll think twice about intriguing you. probably not at all. put taste of blood on a character you know he'll want to kneel and you still collect power anyway. try baratheons with vigilants , knights and Obey your king. My friend plays lannisters all the time and and was using a kneel deck. he's moved on to trying some clansmen.

i find lannisters more of a joust house . Very tough to joust with. get him to play melee and see how he likes it. he might not want to play again though. he's going to do lot of cursing and grumbling and sulking and crying and jumping up and down on the couch and banging the walls and complaining how everyone's ganging up on him. Remember- he can't kneel everyone. Just ignore this behavior. lannisters have great end game and draw. they will claw back and close a game. So- even when he seems defeated and down and out, no matter how much he cries because everyones ganging up on him, never let your foot off a lannisters throat until it's over. Never feel sorry for a lannister.

He was playing against a couple of mates the other day with it, and they both had dragon decks, he didn't win but he stills pissed them big time with it. lol

I've only been playing a couple of weeks, so i'm still learning, so he's bound to beat me really, but i'm determined that one day the tables will turn lol

I am so glad to see someone ask this question! Thanks, Carella happy.gif We have an almost identical situation here. My wife and I just got the game a couple of weeks ago and she is playing Stark. I went Lannister because I liked the control aspects (similar to blue in Magic, which I tend to favor). The kneeling thing got her well ticked off! She asked me to post her to ask about her options, and you beat us to it!

I will be sharing the Stark ideas with my wife. Funny thing, our first game, she came ROARING back with her Stark Core deck. After we tweaked our decks with some Chapter Pack cards, I knelt virtually everything she had.

Her biggest advantage was running lots of cards with military icons. I didn't have much, if anything to defend with, and lost characters as a result. Press with military, early and often, and you might stand a better chance. Let us know what works for you so I can share it with my wife!

A well-built Martell deck can make him cry. Include a lot of Vengeful (Darkstar is especially good since he turns Intrigue challenges into a surprise character.) Lots of "After you lose a challenge" responses like A Taste for Blood. Burning on the Sand, of course. Venomous Blades will kill most of his non-uniques.
