Objective cards

By Flames2, in Mansions of Madness

Every game the Keeper knows how he wins and how invetigators win. This is a very big disadvantage for the investigators.

I have seen at several games how the investigators loose because an event triggers the objective card saying "keeper wins if he kills one investigator". The next turn the Keeper killed an investigator and the game finished. This is awful and frustrating for investigators, as they have no time to react.

I have been thinking about it, and it would be nice if objective cards could be split this way

I do agree that investigator's objective is revealed because investigators find clue 1 or event deck is finished, but keepers objective could be revealed any how (event, action, clues, ...) so investigators do not know how to win, but at least they know how to loose. They are aware of the danger and they would do as much as possible not to loose the game.

(I cannot see the graphic you posted)

It might be interesting to split the objective cards into two cards, with story choice 1 determining part of the objective, and story choice 2 determining the other part. You could use this method of progressive disclosure for other things besides the objective; I have a thread on BGG about it here:

Yes it will give the game more options.

The problem is that i can not attach the image directly from my computer. I have todo it through and Hyperlink. Lets try again

The players need to look out for stuff the Keeper is doing thats not directly related to stopping them - like generating zombies and sending them to an altar for example, and shoudl realise thats most likely related to the his/her objective. Then they can attemopt to prevent that plan - of course it could all be misdirection.

what about reading out loud the three objectives cards before the keeper chooses ? It spoils part of the story but it also gives some equilibrium between the keeper and the investigators. (just thinking out loud).

Having the Keeper knowing the objectives right at the start is part of his role.

Think of the Keeper as the Malevolent Entity or an Ancient, having it's own agenda and luring curious Investigators where he want them to play with them as he see fits. So from the beginning, the Keeper knows why he brought those humans here.

On the Investigators side, they feel the urge to enter the Mansion and can't resist it. They feel there's something terribly wrong going on here but can't tell what it is. Then after exploring parts of the Mansion and witnessing disturbing occurences, they found terrible clues about what is really going on. that's when they know what to do and they'll focus on this task, hoping they will get out of there alive and sane.
