Regionals Report So Far

By Fieras, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Last year at Stahleck there was none of either. No First round bye for regional (or even national) champions and no seeds. That might change this year however. The best would be to ask thorondor to make sure.

Thanks for the reply, I will do so. Given the other discussions, I would be interested to see if FFG tightens up their policies regarding the premier events, so they can be similar. Though organized play, aside from Regionals, Nationals, Stahleck, and GenCon are generally not organized at more than the store level, once support packages are delivered.

What type of policies are you referring to?

First round byes? Tiebreakers? etc?

Just verifying what a regional win gets you at GenCon. It's easy to just give someone a bye for the first round in the joust, but it doesn't translate quite so well to melee. And frankly, I've always assumed that as much as they want to win, most people want to play games, especially against people they might not have the opportunity to do so.

I didn't play in Joust at GenCon last year, so I don't know if they'd done anything like they system from before where each regional winner brought in a certain amount of points to count toward the overall title. Since you can't really do the bye for melee that well, perhaps that kind of system makes sense. Or give the overall regional winners the bonus points, and give a bye (or something melee comparable) to the respective joust & melee winners.

If they do lay out something like this, I was wondering if they might suggest a similar system for Stahleck, to create additional parallelism or parity between the European & GenCon champions.

I bet they do what they did last year, a full pass to GenCon. That way they don't have to pay for much really... lengua.gif

A first-round bye (for the ONLY game that matters) is even cheaper, and they did that before...but it created a weird mess of tie-breakers that only Ktom can decipher gui%C3%B1o.gif

There is no full pass to Gencon. The regional kits were cheaper this year and that is why. You do get a first round bye at gencon, but no financial compensation.

Cheaper? Jeez, how much were they last year?

Just to clarify, I wasn't suggesting entry to GenCon, merely free entry into the event. I just find first round buys stoopid. And a pain in the ass to properly weight for SoS. But I'm no Ktom... or whoever is running the event. > :D

Everything, including the french regional in Lille (I think?)

Are you keeping stats on the top cut House/Agends?Restricted List card as well? Or is Twn2dn alone in that?

Ive got agendas. 2 tournaments didnt keep track of restricteds, so that data is incomplete.

I have the restricted card info for everything but the following:

• French Lille Tourney (They dont have it, I wont be able to get it)
• Kublacon (I should be able to get this. We recorded it, I just need to get it from Syd/Chaos
• French Lyon tourney (No idea if they have it)

I have the agenda information from everything but the following:

• French Lyon Tourney.

For lyon wait the end of the week, you will have all these information with reports of national French.

All melee information will be there friday, For Joust maybe Sunday, but probably monday because all people have to sleep a bit ^^

To get you started from Iowa: 28 players for Joust, (X) for the rank after Swiss.

3 Stark: 1x Rangers/Steward, 1x Maesters, 1x No Agenda

7 Lannister: 1x Treatry/North, 1 Kingsguard (7), 1x Maesters (1), 4x No Agenda (4)

3 Baratheon: 1x Knights, 1x Shadows (6), 1x No Agenda

3 Greyjoy: 1x Winter (9), 1x Maesters (3), 1x Folk/Giants (2)

6 Targaryen: 1x KotHH, 1x Summer (10), 2x HttIT, 2x No Agenda

6 Martell: 1x Knights, 1x Summer (5), 1x Alliance (Bara), 2x Brotherhood (8), 1x No Agenda

I don't have the Restricted Cards other than my own: Pyromancer's Cache, and I'm too tired to think back to my opponents. I do know that the deck lists have been scanned and the information will be provided... but probably not 'til after MO. Clu did a great job running things while feeling under the weather, and there's still some prep for the Iowa crew before we traipse down to beard the (Denim) Lion* in his den. I didn't really see Brian's Lanni/Kingsguard-Infamy/Beric deck, Adam's Martell/Brotherhood deck, or Jeremiah's Greyjoy/Wildlings, but there wasn't anything even vaguely Rush-like in the top 10.

*-And by this I mean Kennon.... er, uh, the Chump.

Yeah, it was all control all the time for the top 8. Utility might be a better label for a couple of the decks. Noel has already scanned the deck lists and I hope to have them posted later this week.

i'd call mine a utility deck.

I look forward to seeing those decklists, particularly mine, so that I don't have to reconstruct it for my tourney report.

Yeah Nick, I'd definitely refer to your deck as utility; you had plenty of versatile tools and your dominance (not the phase) was more subtle and restrictive, as opposed to the more direct dominance I'd expect out of a control deck.

Understandable... I don't wish debate semantics ~or precision of speech. Having played you the day before I would certainly say you fall on the control side of a rush vs. control access. I'd like to think my Targ deck more toolbox than control, but it's certainly more control than rush.

Again, big props, that bad boy, and your play of it was impressive.

I wouldn't call the GJ wildling deck control at all.

One minor correction Luke, my primary house for the Alliance deck was Bara. Which makes it 4 Baratheon and 5 Martell. My restricted card was Fury of the Stag. I realize I could have changed the primary house for better restricted options, but with the number of Targ and Martell decks out there I figured the plot was worth it.

So no top-4 finish for Targ? Lame... enfadado.gif

By the way, does anyone have the results for the Austin Texas regionals? That was also June 4.

Thanks!

What would you call it then? I didn't get to see it played, and was making shoddy assumptions. Could you describe it for us, until the decklist appears?
