Drinking potions with fatigue

By BenBenitrio, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

This should be my last question for now x_x

Can a hero spend a fatigue to drink a potion even though he has not made any movement actions?

Example: (hero) battles, and makes 2 attacks then spends one fatigue to drink a health potion.

Obviously this could take place in any order, but is it possible for the hero to do this?

I don't see anything against this. If you cross-check the core game rules, on pag 18 it's written:

Spending Fatigue for Movement
At any time during a hero’s turn, he may spend one fatigue to gain one movement point, even if he is currently taking the battle action. This may be done as often as the hero desires. Movement points gained in this manner are spent just like normal movement points.

The key point I believe is that you generate a movement point, thus you should be able to perform all actions this movement point allows you to do. Generally speaking, it's an interesting action spending Fatigue to drink Vitality

Yes, you can spend fatigue to drink a potion.

Julia has quoted the relevant passage. Spending a fatigue point gives your hero a movement point. He may use that MP in any way an MP can normally be spent, in combination with MP granted by his declared Action or items he has equipped, if applicable, or with other MP gained by spending additional fatigue during the same turn.

MP gained from fatigue will stick around for the whole of the hero's turn (he doesn't need to spend it immediately after burning the fatigue, although 9 times out 10 he probably will.) Do note, however, that MP do not carry over to future turns if left unspent. That goes for all MP, fatigue-generated or otherwise.

Kepp in mind this still counts for his one potion per turn limit.

Hmmm, a FAQ entry finally balancing some stuff. Thanks for poiting this out, Steve. I have to tell something to some guys saying "hey, with Battle and some fatigue and potions I should be allowed to move nine spaces in the same round". It's a pity it's not clearly stated in the core rules, tough. This game has a lot of minutiae to take care of. Need more learning!

There was no limit on potions per turn in the core rules, it was added in errata later. Not sure if newer copies of the game updated the rulebook to reflect this or not.

The second one. I bought the game in December 2010 and nothing was said about this. I've found it in the FAQ (I still have to read them properly), after you pointed it out in your previous answer. So thank you!

I wish I looked at the core rules, I've been so caught up in the road to legend and faqs and errata I forgot to get to basics. Thank you for pointin this out and thank you Steve-O for your input too, Both of you have made things very clear to me.
