Out of Clue Token?!

By Saikoro, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Here's the deal: everybody's sitting around 4-5 clue token everything's fine. Then someone draw the Professor Rice. We're playing Dunnwitch+Innsmouth(**** yeah baby!) and there's too many Unstable Location for the Clue Tokens that are left.

Question: Are we out of Clue Token or what? Is the number of those limited by the number provided by the game? Or am I allowed to use some other ''token'' to compensate the lack.

There is obviously a limit to the number of actual clue tokens (I frequently run out) but you can use other tokens instead. There is no limit to the number of clue tokens you can have. I wish they would add an extra 10 or so to a forthcoming expansion.

I think clues were specifically limited in one of the scenarios, but I can't see anything in the general rules that limits them. I don't see why they would be limited like gates, where there is a consequence. Anyone who has the app - is there a limit to clues on that?

Yep, this is something returning from the past... at the moment, somebody some times ago said that probably in the coming FAQ he thought it would be stated that [...] clues are not supply limited. And Shub memory is right, in some of League Scenarios it was stated they were limited for that Scenario . Nonetheless, this point is not universally accepted by the community, so you could probably gather different opinions at this regard

I'm, pretty sure that is not the case, actually. If my memory serves correctly, in the base rulebook, there is a statement indicating that if you run out of clue tokens, no clues are placed until they are returned to the clue token bank.

I don't remember that. But my memory is fuzzy like a giant ball of lint. Does anyone have a quote from the manual?

I searched the pdf manual for "clue" and couldn't find anything, so it would have to be a general rule regarding the token supplies, but I'd be surprised if one existed, given that there are explicit rules addressing monster and gate markers, and there are enough of most other things (e.g. retainers, blessings, and so on) that it couldn't ever be a problem, so this could pretty much only ever come up with clues and money.

(...With one weird exception, actually; I just realized that there is 54 sanity and stamina worth of tokens, and it's actually now just barely possible to have a party that exceeds this number (for example, an 8-investigator game including Akachi, Jacqueline, George, Harvey, Lily, Luke, Sister Mary, and one of the 6-sanity people, or someone with Duke etc); so, unless we're inclined to say that during setup (and when someone goes to the asylum), players can only take as many sanity tokens as are available, there does seem to be a general presumption that tokens are limitless unless specified otherwise)
