Is Edge of the Abyss any good? I don't care about the adventure within, but the Chaos stuff interests me.

What DH books are good for RT (or even DW, but im posting here).

Thanks.

As a GM or as a player?

As a GM I find Edge of the Abyss a great book, I've used it quite a bit in my recently-started campaign.

As far as DH books go; for rules I'd say none of them are super useful really. Creatures is decent if you want more adversaries I guess. Lore wise though, Inquisitors Handbook offers great detail and Disciples of the Dark Gods does the same. I'm not sure how much you'd get out of them for just RT though.

For RT I'd say you'd want to get the Core Rulebook, Into the Storm, Edge of the Abyss, and Battlefleet Koronus as a GM. Lure of the Expanse is useful even if you aren't running the adventure. It details Footfall and a good amount of planets within.

well, if your going to let the group have a few heretics, the up coming book "Hostile Acquisitions" is going to be a guide for piracy and operating the black market. Dark crusade might also be a good investment. Into the storm has alternate paths that can let you start as a false-man or heretek. the options a slowly growing if your group wants to run on the wrong side of imperial justice, just don't expect to visit port wander any time soon.

Dark Crusade? Do you mean Black Crusade?

sorry, can't keep up with all the books out there. I think there are about 4-5 books not including the adventures that will be available for rogue trader. forgot how many with Dark heresy and Death watch. Black Crusade will make a total of 4 core rule books. So far my group is just running rogue trader, with a xeno in the party, running DH characters in the party would be rather strenuous both on the GM and players from inner party conflict. Guess the main question is, can you run a game involving player characters from all 4 core books as well as the player hand books?

In theory, yes. DH characters are arguably more powerful at the same EXP level, but it's nothing that can't be handled with a little house-ruling. Black Crusade we don't know about, but based on the description of how characters advance it should be rather simple to add in.

I suppose a "problem" with DH characters could be that they're meant to operate and shine on their own, therefore (depending on the career? haven't really compared the classes yet and am just drawing conclusions from people's opinions and the games' scopes) being individually more powerful due to cheap skills, whereas RT characters are all string-pullers, who excel in managing and leading their assets due to special talents. I've heard that slight alterations to the xp cost are supposed to easily balance the skillset differences, though, if you feel there's a need to do so.

Anyhow, in terms of books: DH Inquisitor's Handbook. Seriously, it's pretty much a must-have. Aside from a ton of weapons and equipment, it also comes with a few nifty ideas about expanded skill options, such as the size of your gun giving a bonus to "Intimidate", or using the "Trade (Armourer)" skill to modify existing or craft new gear.
