Willpower and Terror icons going insane

By Paul Grogan, in CoC Rules Discussion

Couldnt work out the answer to this, despite re-reading rules and FAQ

Characters will Willpower or a card icon cannot go insane. However, what happens with cards such as Things in the Ground: http://www.cardgamedb.com/forums/index.php?/gallery/image/1172-things-in-the-ground/

Would characters go into play insane in this case, or just into play for free?

FAQ v1.4 states:

When I play Things in the Ground’s triggered
ability to bring characters into play insane, does
willpower or terror icons protect them from being
insane?

No. These characters enter play in an
insane state before Willpower or Terror
Icons can prevent them from going
insane.

If you want to use TitG, make sure you pack an Arkham Asylum! gui%C3%B1o.gif

And I 'thought' I had read through the FAQ twice!

At least we played it correctly :)

My follow-up question (which I forgot to ask initially), what about coming into play effects. Do these work if a card comes into play insane? I cant remember the card I had but it said "when it comes into play, do this....", and wasnt sure if this triggered or not since it does come into play, but insane.

From the faq:

An insane character’s skill, text box, cost,
and icons cannot be modified. Although
it still counts as a character under your
control, it is always treated as having 0
skill, 0 cost, no icons, no subtypes, no
text box
, and no faction, regardless of
any effects in play.

Since the character comes into play insane, the lack of a text box precludes its come into play ability. Thus, no come into play ability.

If a character comes into play insane, then they're treated like a normal, insane character would (pardon the oxymoron): blank text box, N/A skill, cost 0. Because of that, it can't trigger any "come into play" type effects. This really pisses off your better half if she puts her Diseased Sewer Rats and Grasping Cthonians into play insane. Not that I would know anything about that...

Hell hath no fury as that of Je scorned?

No wonder she was rooting for everyone but you at Arkham Nights.
