Its kind of rude changing the scope of the tournament at the last minute like that.

a friend from WI and i are likely to come at this point (gotta get back to the other two going from madison, too) -- just looking for a few more details about the event:

-- how many rounds for joust, and what time do you think it'll be over? same for melee -- we might come for just one day or the other, and it might depend on how late the joust could go on saturday night, or what time we'll be able to head back on sunday...

-- what's the lodging situation -- is anyone in IA city hosting out-of-towners, or are there cheap nearby hotels/motels you'd recommend? if worst comes to worst, i've shared a bed with luke before and have no problem fending off his aggressive attempts at cuddling

-- any chance of getting in a cube draft on saturday night? rings has a cube, right?

-- what's the entry fee?

and the friend wants to know how the regional champion title is being determined between the two days of play -- ~apparently these things matter to some people

if nate is going, i'll be there.

and another one: are you guys planning on having a big crowd for the melee on sunday too?

Thanks to who ever fixed this thread!! To answer finite's questions...

1)# of Rounds and Time=Scheduling
Iowa Regional
Friday- 6pm+ Casual play/drinks at my house 318 N. Gilbert St. (game store will be packed with FNM players)
Saturday- 1pm Joust 2-8 players=3 rounds cut to top 2, 9-16 players=4 rounds cut to top 4, 17-32=5 rounds cut to top 8
Sunday- 1pm Melee 2-4 players=1 round, 5-8=2 rounds, 9-16=3 rounds
*NOTE- I believe the store opens at 10am on both days. If this would work better for more people then we are flexible. Especially on Sunday!

2) Lodging

The closest hotel is the Sheraton but there are many cheaper options around. I'll ask my group tonight if anyone has floor space! I would also look at the Heartland Inn in Coralville. Iowa City and Coralville are seperated by a bridge and the hotel is 10 minutes away from the store AND next to the place that we will most likely end up partying at.

3) Cube Saturday Night
I will talk to the owner and see if we can get any of her employees to stay late, I really don't see that as a problem.

4) Entry Fee= $25 for both days (I will talk with owner tonight and see if we can negociate a deal or two)

5) Champion Scoring
I honestly thought there was only one way to score this as 50/50. If I can change that number then it would look closer to 75/25 Joust being 75.

6) Number of Melee Participants
I have no idea! I would imagine at least 6 locally, then whoever sticks around.

sounds awesome -- i think we'd be able to stick around if the melee started at 10 on sunday, even if we had to drop early, but either way count two more cheeseheads in for the joust at least

I'd second the 10 AM start for the melee, which would increase the likelihood of two more participants. Also using hotwire.com I was able to secure $53(includes tax, but no cancellation ability) a night lodging in Coralville at a Super 8 (complete with breakfast and internet)

As a bonus, I'm not particularly good, especially at Melee, so I'll improve everyone else's results.

Ok, updates.

Cost for the tournament will be $20. I will check about getting the Melee started at 10am. (It seemed very likely from the stores point of view but they need to talk to their employees).

now the critical hit website says the joust starts at 10a on saturday and the joust at 12p on sunday; the calendar says 12p/12p; and the last post from jerod says 1p/1p, haha.

is it safe to say that the intent of all of that is: reg begins at 12p for the joust on saturday with the tourney start time at 1p, and that the melee will begin something like 10a on sunday?

are decklists going to be required?

I will talk with them tomorrow to get it straightend out. Joust check in at noon. Melee check in at 10am. Decklists will be required!

We've got the scheduling all straightened out now (an error on our part) and have updated the store website and calendar. Sorry for the confusion. We're looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

I re-read the Joust times and looked more closely at a map, and I am going to have to cancel. I have to be in Omaha @ ~10.00pm to pick up my family at the airport (i.e. I CANNOT be late) and I was really hoping to be able to play. But starting @ 1.00pm (read: 1.30pm at every event I have ever been at) and hitting probably 5 rounds before top 8...I just can't swing it. Iowa City is a lot farther away than I remembered it to be (mainly since I was visiting Luke which was even farther East)...4.5 hours to OMA means I have to leave at 5.30 which certainly isn't enough time.

Sorry - I was really looking forward to this! A good luck to everyone! Hope to visit another time soon.
