Black Fire Pass hype machine: I summon thee!

By Doc, the Weasel, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Omens of War has come forth and been digested by the masses. Now, the time has come for spoilage of the next dark spawn to be disgorged from the Warp: Black Fire Pass.

It's coming was foretold in the darkest of tomes, "Shifting through Shadows." Hear these unclean words and despair:

Black Fire Pass introduces an in-depth look at dwarfs
with more information about their history
and presence in the Old World.
Including new careers, actions, location cards,
and two rulebooks,
Black Fire Pass expands the options
available to players and GMs.
In addition to showcasing dwarf technology
and rune magic,
this supplement also includes a full adventure
that is set in this volatile location.

Oh great demon princes of FFG marketing, let loose your weekly updates. Your slavering brood starve, forced to feast on the ashes of aimless forum posts.

Raise your voices, my brethren, so that our dark masters may hear our pleas and favour us with the unholy knowledge we crave!

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hail the unclean ones! Our prayers are answered!

Grovel before the lovely cover art, and recite the unholy vows within: "What are you doing in Conservative stance, you pansy?"

I've been super-psyched about this supplement ever since the Journey to Black Fire Pass event last year. The wait is unbearable. 10 new careers, new action cards, Invention and Rune cards, etc...it sounds awesome!

and best of all a advanced careers for the ironbreakers. this is very exiting!!!!!

Let there be in depth discussion about Gork and Mork and which one is the god of brutal cunning and which is the god of cunning brutality. More green skins!!

More beards!! All these clean shaven manlings are cramping my style!

I actually said, "Yay," when I saw the announcement.

I'm always looking for more stuff (since as I've said I've become a junkie), and it looks like there's plenty of cards and stands coming our way (just where will Rune talent cards be socketed? On a character or on equipment somehow? Can't wait to find out!). My practical question right now is will there be sufficient hooks to send a party of humans or primarily humans on the adventure or will it really be a Dwarf-only escapade? I could understand if it was (Dwarf-only), but it would be really nice if it was more flexible.

I played in and rather enjoyed the demo last year-- and I am fairly certain my group would be up to making Dwarfs for a side game either way.

Love that Slayer Card conservative side: "What are you doing in Conservative Stance you *****???"

It looks very very good.

Well, I don't be so euphoric.

After all those bugs again in OoW I will read the feedbacks in this forum.

I also think that there are not "enough" Advanced Dwarf Carrers in it and that Rune Magic, like in WoM is not supportet to all ranks, again.

So my own house rules and cards is an option unless there is an exeptionally good feedback from the most of the forum users.

The mechanism for Inventions looks great and upgrade cards for the dwarfen runes are also a great idea. Seems they had fun doing this expansion and i will be happy to buy it.

This will be a glorious death.... LOVE IT!

That's the kind of slayer actions I have been waiting for. I Can just imagine the slayer saving the entire group by sacrificing himself using this. I REALLY look forward to this expansion. It's incredible how FFG continue to improve and build on this game.

WELL DONE FFG! You have proven that you can handle the greatest RPG IP ever... Warhammer has never been better, mo so exciting when new stuff is released.

I'm looking forwards to it, will be good to have another location fleshed out as much as Ubersreik was in EoN, and more action cards, wounds, severe injuries and insanities are always welcome!

Looks like we're getting some new bits and pieces too with the dice tokens that socket to the Inventions. And yes the Slayer card is beyond awesome. I can't wait.

There are very few "dwarf-only" careers. For all of these (plus some new careers) it has Advanced careers taking them all up to rank 3 at least. So, umm... how is that not "enough" Advanced Dwarf careers?

What bugs do you mean?

I think after OoW which naturally was a very grim and rather humorless thing Black Fire Pass is going to be a blast. I can't say that I'm a big dwarves fan but I'm looking forward to this expansion nonetheless. Rune Magic sounds very interesting.

I have yet to see any "bugs" from any of the expansions actually affect gameplay.

Are there any other action cards, aside from spells, that have "Rank" traits/restrictions, or is that new too?

Looks cool. The only thing that really is going to get me excited anymore are a real series of adventures/moduels. Anything else is just becoming sort of more of the same to me.

Not to take away from cool dwarfy stuff. I don't know why Rune Magic was not fleshed out more to begin with. We had winds of magic. Witches song. Plenty of oppurtunities to offer some base rules to begin wtith.

It will if you're thick as a brick gran_risa.gif

I agree. Hate the errors, but when playing they don't get in the way.

I guess I'm as thick as a brick. I'll give you an example of an error that affected my gameplay:

For my first Warhammer character I wanted to play a Scribe. I purchased the Player's Guide, which has the Scribe misprinted as an Advanced career. I thought this was odd but ended up taking a different career due to this error. Because the Creature Guide and Vault are riddled with errors (especially on the physical components), I have refused to purchase them otherwise I'm sure I would have additional examples to offer.

Also, in the Player's Guide the Double Strike action card is misprinted (it has the incorrect recharge rating for the reckless side). I wanted to take it for a Thug character I was building. Fortunately, I double checked with the errata online otherwise I would have been in for a little surprise during my first fight when my GM told me I couldn't use it every turn.

In the end, it all comes down to a matter of preference and tolerance. Just as I'm free to not purchase WFRP 3E products that contain errors (with those on the physical components such as action cards and career sheets being the most troublesome), you are free to buy them and not let it bother you.

As for Black Fire Pass, I can't wait for this expansion to come out! The careers and cards look great. As with all of my WFRP 3E purchases now, I'll take a wait-and-see approach on it though, to gauge the level of errors in it before buying a copy. Hopefully they will be kept to a mild roar.

But what will you do when you find out that it does in fact contain errors... because it will? Skip it? Worrying about things beyond your control is pointless gui%C3%B1o.gif

It will have errors, but I think it will also be one hell of an expansion, so missing it would be silly.

Gallows,

I agree on two of your points - one of them philosophical, one of them, err, Warhammerical:

1. Worrying about things out of your control is definitely silly. I would wager that makes most of the human race pretty silly as people seem more likely to worry about things they can't control rather than those things they can.

2. Black Fire Pass looks to be an awesome expansion, and something I really want to spend my money on. Really bad. As in right now! FFG, my wallet is yours for the taking!

But, if it's not up to snuff in the editing department I'll pass. That might sound weird, or foolish, or even completely incomprensible to most everyone else, but that's my choice. What will I do? I'll wait for a second printing, or a future expansion with corrected components. In the meantime (or if that never happens), I can appreciate the relatively error-free fantastic releases FFG has already put out for WFRP 3E, namely Winds of Magic, Signs of Faith, The Witch's Song and others.

And just so we're clear, I'm a big fan of WFRP 3E and FFG in general, I just like (mostly) error-free components in my games.

It's not that they prevent gameplay, When I know that there is an error on the card, I know how to put it right.

But, I you for example go into a theatre and pay money for it and you know what Faust is going to say "Dummes Zeug kann man viel reden
Kann es auch schreiben." and instead the actor sais "Dummes Zeug ... oh and the rest of the text, sorry people I forgot the text." you would be upset, too. Even if you know how the text has to be, because you know the stage play.

So why is it so difficult for FFG to proofread the whole cards in front of the monitor twice and with two or three proofreaders? I don't know.

So I nonetheless ordered OoW but for BFP I won't spent any cent if there are such errors in again. I made my own house rules and cards for it. And the "fluff" and background I get from my 2nd Ed. books.

So the do not really affect gameplay, but with errors on it I don't need them instead I can use the component free character sheet and write it down from the guides (wich ALSO have bugs) and correct the text

I agree - to a point. Once we have the four chaos gods fleshed out, as well as the Dwarves, Elves and, ideally, Halflings, then a 'high level' product which adds spells, blessings, actions and careers up to and even beyond rank 5, I'd basically just like adventure supplements and campaigns from then on.

Of course, just filling out the above will probably take a couple of years :)

At the rate FFG is going, about 1 product every 2-3 months, I don't think it will take nearly as long as you think it will. gui%C3%B1o.gif
