Just been reading over the new fighting styles from Omens of War. The way they are introduced in the book, read like there are prerequistes for the enhance cards and fighting style action cards. What these are i haven't tracked down yet... Or... is it as straight forward as buy action card, have fighting style... ??

I think it's a "your table" sort of thing. At your table, can anyone take Saga cards not just a dwarf, anyone take Ritual Dance not just wood elf wardancer etc.? If so, anyone can take Deistro etc. from Omens not just a noble or duelist etc.

If your table says "only characters of that background can take those cards", then only those.

My table is "only characters of that background or who have a narrative explanation (I an a dwarf-friend, lived with dwarfs for 5 years etc.) can take them and then as non-career advances".

By the rules there's no restrictions on cards that you take as long as you meat the pre-req's (requires shield, or agility 4) for example. But the fact that a card says 'Zweihander' on it doesn't mean only someone using the Zweihander style can use it. Those kinds of restrictions are up the the GM/Group and are flavor based. Similar to if you wanted to restrict Troll-Feller strike to only troll slayers.

However what those traits actually are for are to chain with other cards. So the zweihander cards for example often have bonuses when other zweihander cards are recharging. That's where the real mechanical use of the traits come in.

The flavor of the game is, i expect why we play this game, but putting that aside for a moment,

The 'Zweihander' or 'ritual dance' descriptions essentially link the action cards together, as you said to get a bonus whilst they recharge. The only requirements for any fighting style, is to take the action cards as part of your character development.

Then being able to play the action cards means your character has a version of what ever fight style those cards relate too.

Everyone can take all styles. I just have one rule, that only slayers can take slayer actions (and the beserker rage card).
