Chaos/Skaven FFG King of the Hill Tournament WInner

By Vitamin T, in Warhammer Invasion Deck Building

This is the Chaos/Skaven deck that I played to win the king of the hill event at the FFG LCG days. Overall it has worked pretty well, it has some issues with dark elves though.

3 Clan Molder Elite
3 Savage Gor
3 Plague Bomb
3 Slaanesh's Domination
3 Ungor Raiders
3 Sorcerer of Tzeentch
3 Desecrated Temple
3 Warpstone Excavation
3 Burn it Down
3 Contested Village
3 Greyseer Thanquol
3 Clan Rats
3 Chittering Horde
3 Deathmaster Sniktch
3 Gutter Runners
3 Night Runners
2 Rat Ogres

The Slaanesh's Dominations, the Sorcerers and Greyseers all work fairly well against empire decks. The Chittering Hordes also help you in that match if they attempt to prevent you from drawing cards.

I had a Skaven/Slannesh list, and a Skaven/Plauge Bomb list, but hadn't tried them in the same deck. Not a bad idea. Seems like Chosen of Tzeentch would be solid, even without a whole lot of barrels to spend on him. Also still kind of like Wolves for the permanent loyalty icon.

Dark Elves do seem to really dominate some matchups.

Good deck, even if i think there are not so much Chaos unit to use desecrated temple. But i really like this deck. :)

I'm really curious to see a strong DE list, could you just post one for example please? :)

Yeah desecrated temple is not fantastic in here. I did use it to win the last match in the finals when I plague bombed my own gors off with a temple out to take out like 5 developments.

I tried wolves in here as well, it was in the temple slot. It was certainly great when you got thanquil on it. I just felt like I kinda needed the extra support card I guess.

Yeah, I'll throw up a DE list in the next couple of days. I'm out of town at present and don't have my stuff with me. We have several lists that have done OK. They aren't our strongest decks, probably, but they just totally take over some games because Offering to Hekkarti is so insane.

Remember like a month ago when everyone thought that quests were worthless? Now a quest is arguably the format defining card at the moment and if it werent for the strength of the current empire decks Hekkarti might be the format defining card instead.

I like the idea to ressurect Skaven, who fall a bit behind in the last cycle. Vitamin T, why did you choose Night Runners over Jezzail Team? And wherefore did you include Slaanesh's Domination? What do you hope to reveal from opponent's hand? The best tactic I can think of is Demoliton!.

Congrats again on the win, T. ; )

Slaanesh's Domination is actually a large part of why this deck works. It is critical in the empire match up. If you can hit them with it early you can force them to waste their long winters and can get rid of their judgements, wills and demos (even catching them with it if you're lucky).

As for Night Runners, a funny story. A friend of mine that I play with a lot came up with the idea of naming your deck after the worst card in it and we call this one the 'Night Runners Deck'. I guess I have them over jezzal team because they are another 2 cost unit and I wanted to keep my curve low. I actually feel like that maybe plague monk would be a better call just for the 2 hps.

sounds like a great deck .

I had a playtest night yesterday with my play group, and i decided to use this deck. After a few matches i made some changes, tell me what you think about it :) :

3 Cloud of Flies
3 Fledgling Chaos Spawn
3 Warpstone Excavation
3 Contested Village
3 Burn it Down
3 Clan Moulder's Elite
3 Clan Rats
3 Desecrated Temple
3 Night Runners
3 Slaanesh's Domination
3 Ungor Raiders
3 Disgraced Champion
3 Greyseer Thanquol
3 Plague Bomb
3 Sorcerer of Tzeentch
3 Deathmaster Sniktch
2 Rat Ogres
3 Flames of Tzeentch

-- 53 Cards

I tried to focus on control, losing a little bit of "rushing". Against Verena-Haunted City it's pretty solid, against orc-rush is 55%-45%, against Orc Control (reanimator or not) well... it's very hard to win. :)

But it's still a solid deck to start playing a competitive Chaos, maybe with the new cards or legends.

This type of direction seems fine. Though I would either play Chittering Horde or lose more of the skaven cards.

Chittering is a big boost indeed, but since i added more Chaos unit, i found that card a little useless right now. By the way, what i should remove for it?

I guess I was saying if you are going to play more chaos cards making Chittering worse I would also go ahead and remove some of the skaven cards as well (like night runners)

If you were going to still play chittering I suppose I'd maybe pull the chaos spawn. I do like him in the right deck though. Also I normally like cloud of flies very much but in this particular deck I dont know if you really have the units to make it work, I havent tried it though.

What do you think about cloying quagmire vs the flames of tzneetch? Both have their advantages.
