Stupid question about military claim

By Toqtamish, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Can a player select a character with a duplicate to fulfill military claim effects and then discard the duplicate to save the character from dying and still have fulfilled the claim effect ?

Also does a duplicate save a character from being killed by Valar morghulis ?

Yes, and yes.

Thank you for your reply.

To add a note. You cannot choose the same character to fulfill the same claim effect more than once. I.e. losing a military challenge to a claim of 2 will not allow you to sacrifice two dupes of the same character to satisfy claim.

What about a character with two duplicates that is killed and the first save response is countered (i.e. He calls it thinking)?

Can I use the second duplicate to save him or is the character dead for the "one response per triggered effect" rule?

The phrase "one response per trigger" is misleading anyway, and is causing confusion time and again. In fact, there is no "one response per trigger" rule. You can use as many responses as you can manage off of the same trigger. If you have Shadows Tyrion, the Queen of Thorns, the Black Cells and Alchemist's Guild Hall out, you can trigger all their responses off of one and the same card coming out of Shadows.

The rule that actually does exist says that you can trigger each response only once per trigger. Not the same thing.

Yes, I know, I write that wrong, but the sense was that.

Thanks for the answers

The most common question about the "one Response per trigger" is not whether the same card can be triggered twice or if only 1 Response in total can be triggered. Most people get those ideas from context without any trouble. Rather, the most common question is exactly what thorin asked: "if I have two separate, individual Responses that do the exact same thing, can I use them both for the same trigger."

Whether saying "One Response per trigger" or "You can trigger each Response only once per trigger," that particular point of confusion is likely to still come up.

That's exactly what I meant by asking that questiongui%C3%B1o.gif.
