i'd rather recommend daisy with alchemical process and just buy the crap out of the shop instead of passing all items by..

Well... Yeah, that's another way of going about things. It's good for Elder Sign acquisition in particular. But even Daisy can't turn a King in Yellow to near infinite clues, or an Eltdown Shards into a draining of the doom track (unless you buy up the entire unique item deck except for those cards ;'D which I did for one of the league games).

true. but speaking of infinitive clues, the way to do it (without making it both boring hanging out at the store, and not really exploiting the game) is to use Illuminated Manuscript with either Harvey, Carolyn or anyone with the healing stone. or the terrible old man. or Ammi Pierce.. or someone at the hospital.

really, it's quite easy with the illuminated manuscript.

Well, that's another piece of fun you can pick up, but you're forgetting one thing. Four turns with illuminated manuscript=4 clues, four turns with King in Yellow=16 clues. For speed, it can't compete (even though I love getting it generally speaking).

Found something in the Innsmouth FAQ:

Q: Can an investigator use a location’s special ability even if he
can’t meet its requirements?

A: No. In order to choose to execute a location’s special ability
(instead of having an encounter in that location), an investigator
must be able to meet its printed requirements. For example, a
character without sufficient trophies can’t avoid an encounter
at the Police Station by choosing to execute that location’s
special ability, and then failing to do so for lack of meeting its
requirements.

Shouldn't this imply you should have 2 dollars to go Curiositie shopping? I mean, if you have to meet the requirements of a location to use its special ability AND the cheapest item costs 2 bucks, going there with 0$ or 1$ shouldn't meet the requirement (you cannot afford any items, in neither case)

I always found the King in Yellow tome horribly underpriced. Is 4 clue tokens a little bit too much for a couple of bucks? Also have my problems with Old Journal as well. I find it rather hard to believe that the journal is the same price as a Lucky Cigarette Case (an item which I never really use).

I suppose one can argue that just having money demonstrates proof of intent to purchase. Besides, setting a $2 limit on usage of the Curiositie Shoppe would imply an awareness of the cheapest item to be had in that store. And who goes shopping with that mindset? gui%C3%B1o.gif

This is most fun with Rex Murphy. Give him a press pass for that extra bang.

I totally agree with you. Generally speaking, when you're offered to buy clues, you usually pay 2 or 3 dollars each. Thus, 4 clues should correspond to an 8 dollar minimum; considering the fact you're required a roll to acquire them, let's say 6$ should be a fair price for KiY. Rather underpriced, indeed.

Yes, you're right about the intent and so on, I'm just lawyering about the "technical requirement" to trigger a location special ability, since I don't see any technical difference in going there with 0$ or with 1$: you cannot afford in either case any of the items

The guy at the UI shop has small useless trinkets for $1. How's he supposed to know that you'll only look at the good stuff?

If you take a random encounter, sometimes you'll wind up getting common items, which can be as cheap as $1 (or $0 with Dunwich).

::laughter:: a good thematic answer!

You also have to factor is being able to spend 2 movement points, passing a lore-2 check and losing a sanity. I agree that on most occasions KIY is a most excellent card, but you have to imagine there are dollar values on each skill check, movement, health and sanity.

Yeah, but if put in the proper hands, this shouldn't be a major problem. In my opionion, at least
