Priest, the movie

By Jack of Tears, in Dark Heresy

So, I saw "Priest" on Thursday and while, overall, it was a decent action film but nothing special, I was very impressed with how appropriate it seemed for 40k. The power of the church, the hive style city, the asthetic ... I could definitely see this as an adventure in a DH game. (I loved the confessional bit, very amusing)

Anyone else seen this yet?

I just watched the trailer after reading your post and it looks totally 40K. I hadn't even heard of it until your post, and sadly it is not released here until in Australia until August. From the trailer I saw I got the following 40k tropes:

Massisve hive city, (well done by the looks of it),

Massive ecclesiarchal statues in the desert,

Macro Haulers,

Nemesis in broad brimmed Witch Hunter hat,

Kill Squad troopers,

Sanctified holy weapons,

Radical priests (the main protagonist), and

Lots of mutants.

Change the crosses on their foreheads for Aquilas and we're there. Looking forward to it, thanks for the heads up.

Just watched a trailer once and got some details about the movie while switching channels on the tv.

I had an idea myself, an idea on a colony in the Hazeroth Abyss that was sad up despite the fact that the planet was classed FORBIDDEN for permanent colonizatin. The veil to the warp was pretty thin, which would lead to unbeareable high risk of mutation, moral corruption and a constant threat of warp apperations.

But a member of a the clergy (a Bishop) with radical views pledged for setting up a colony under his leaderhship. The clergy wanted him removed, so he was allowed to do so... under surveilliance of the Inquisition.

Now, a decade leater, the colony still exists and seems stable. Besieged by terrible things, but stable. Could that be possible? The "official" supervisors got killed in an attack by "the Darkness" (as the threats are summed up on this colony). The pc must contact the agents trusted with undercover-surveillance and bring back some information....

That pretty well sums it up. Having seen the movie, I'll agree that it's a popcorn action movie, but it is a darn good popcorn action movie. Visually, it's very 40K. I've actually recommended it to some of my new players so they can get a better idea of the "look" of the setting.
