News from the MN and DE regionals

By finitesquarewell, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I decided to skip out on the Claymont, DE regional this weekend (having decided that I'd rather stay at home and watch paint dry than play in AGOT tournaments two weekends in a row), but I'm getting news from both DE and the LCG Days event in MN -- here's what I know.

News from DE

Dan/twn2dn reports that 12 players showed up to DE. He's playing Stark/Direwolves (not sure as to the agenda), and the last update I got from him was that he was 3-1, having lost in the fourth game to a Martell deck (which he blamed on the existence of Venomous Blade). Not sure how many games they were playing or the House distribution, though it sounds like only one player brought Bara -- in DE, no less! Bara sure must be unpopular right now. I also heard that Alec/skeletonator came within inches of losing to a friend Dan brought along who has played maybe 10 games of AGOT total in his life, and none in at least the last year... way to rep that championship title, Alec. lengua.gif

News from MN

I have a little more info on this regional. Greg/dobbler posted the stats from the melee last night; Will/kennon ended up winning the melee final table this morning with a Greyjoy/UO/Holy crest deck of some kind, and Greg took third (in what he said was a ridiculously close game that came down to who went first).

For the joust, 24 players showed up, and after three rounds (my latest update) Luke/MaesterLUke, Greg/Dobbler, and Jerod/clu each were undefeated with Martell decks (with Kings of Summer, City of Shadows, and no agenda, respectively). They're playing five games of Swiss with a cut to semi-finals. The house/agenda breakdown:

4 Baratheon, 1 Greyjoy, 3 Lannister, 8 Martell, 1 Neutral, 3 Stark, and 4 Targaryen, with a very good variety of agendas between them.

Dan/twn2dn won the DE regional with his Stark/Direwolf with the Maester agenda, beating Jerry from DE in the final. Sounds like Jerry was playing an aggro-ish Martell deck with a bunch of cards Dan hadn't seen played much in tournaments before (same guy that beat him in round four of the Swiss).

In other news thebraz showed up to the DE regional and took 4th after getting punked by Jerry's Martel deck twice.

:-O ! and we couldn't get you to come down to DC for ours?? :-P

The Swiss just finished at the Days of Ice and Fire joust. After five games, Luke/MaesterLUke was the only 5-0; Greg in second and Jerod in third both at 4-1. Apparently there was a playoff for the fourth spot between two local MN players.

Luke won the joust against Greg in a 12-plot final, and Greg took the overall regional championship title. Sounds like Luke tweaked the standard competitive Martell/Kings of Summer list to include some weapons beyond Venomous Blade along with Alchemist's Shop to consistently have enough strength to play Cyvasse, an interesting innovation.

Congrats guys!

Congrats to all!

And thank you finitesquarewell for the updates.

Grats to Greg and WIll! Way to rep the SW MO area!

I updated the Claymont Regional fairly regularly on my blog at cardgamedb.

Thanks a lot for the updates and congartulations to the winners. How are the chances that we'll see some of these decklists?

I posted my report for the MN regional under the LCG days post for any who are interested.

I'm disappointed I couldn't make it, it looks like it would have been a lot of fun. It looks like Martell is consistently the go-to house for Joust.

Simple calculus: weekend when I have my daughter & 2hr+ trip vs. weekend without and 1.3hr trip.

This! They both played excellent games and I know Greg's final was EPIC. Like really epic. I'm sure they'll post more details later. Seriously proud of Dobbler and Kennon and honored to be their Metamate.

I keep telling people- Ahead of the Tide wins melee games flat out.

I've been wanting to use it, but just hadn't found the time/reason. Thanks for the motivation Kennon. Do you think that Burning on the Sand has a place in a Martell melee deck? Do stop _someone else's_ winning challenge?
