The Capital Cycle

By Grille2, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

This forum got really silent the last days so what are your opinions about the new cycle. Also good to see that new lizard and undead cards are coming (Stegadon, Mannfred von Carstein).

Summary of published cards:

Savage Forsaken (unit)

3C

2 HP

This unit deals +X damage in combat while attacking

X is the highest count on a chaos card you control.

Screamers of Tzeentch (unit)

3C

3 HP

Feared 1 (while this unit is attacking, blank the text box of 1 target unit except for Traits)

Forced: At the beginning of your turn, corrupt this unit.

Khorvak Grimbreath (unit, hero)

3CCCC

3 HP

1 Power

Corrupted Chaos units you control may attack from any zone.

Guild of Engineers (unit, hero)

2DDD

1 HP

1 Power

Engineer

Kingdom. Action: When you play an Engineer card from hand, gain 1 resource.

Quest. Action: When you play an Engineer card from your hand, draw a card.

Inflame (tactic)

Spell

1HHH

Action: Discard a card from your hand with X Loyalty to have a target unit gain X Power until the end of the turn.

Considdering the new Feared keyword I'm not so impressed so far because it's the same as Angi'arie and only useful on your turn. Screamers of Tzeentch have a drawback that they are corrupting themselves at the beginning of your turn maybe because ffg thinks that Feared is a strong effect or it's not such a drawback when you look at Khorvak. It's not clear wether you can attack with a corrupt unit or if after you have restored it or maybe there are coming further effects/tactics that allow you to attack with a corrupted unit.

The synergy with loyalty symbols has the potential to "revive" some old cards that aren't played anymore. I really like Inflame. Seems always usefull especially in mid or late game where you have more cards in hand than you can play a turn.

Good to see that Chaos will once again become attractive.

this new keyword stops ,

1: toughness

2: counterstrike

3: Slayers of Karak Kadrin

4: Dragonmage

5: Swordmasters

6: any unit that an opponent likes to block with in order to get a 'leaving play' or 'when this unit is destroyed' ability

7: the new 'Forest Spirit' ability to block then turn into a devlopment in order to brush off the damage

8: any 'when this unit is opposed' ability

9: Empire units from using abilities to move into and defend a zone

10: the opponent from corrupting his units during your attack in order to gain an ability

There are probably another ten uses for this new keyword. I can't wait to be able to use it.

Wow, that High Elf tactic is amazing. I'm glad Chaos is picking up, but I'm kind of sick of seeing their cards.

The way I interpret how Khorvak Grimbreath works is that your corrupted chaos units may attack even when corrupted.

Why I like Morslieb cycle quite a bit and I'm pretty excited about the Legends big expansion, I am looking forward to the Capital Cycle the most of all. The cards so far all look very interesting and really fun. I'm looking forward to what else Lukas and the gang have in the works!

In my minimeta units with toughness or Counterstrike aren't played. Dragonmage, Forest Spirit is overpriced so it isn't played either and against Slayers of Karak Khadrin it doesn't help because you only get the action after declared as attacker so all "destroy attacking unit" actions like Chain Lightning and dwarfen stuff shut it down. It's definatly not bad especially because it's a new chaos effect that was more expected for dark elfes.

Why do you think it stops Slayers of Karak-Kadrin?

Unit with fear attacks, owner uses it's ability and target Slayers. Slayers in response sacrafice themself and kill unit with fear.

Because "Feared" is a keyword, and can't be responded with an action.

Well, I never said it would stop a tactic like Chain Lightning. But it definitely stops the Slayers as Severance has pointed out.

Ok I didn't keep that in mind.

another rly good thing about this new cycle is the "race-focused" products.

the first gonna be focused on chaos and the other 5 with the remaining races, that's rly great.
