Sell me on Tannhauser

By TheMadjai, in Tannhauser

A buddy of mine and I are big into FFG's catalog. Started with BSG, started recently playing both Arkham games (AH and CoC), and we're looking for the next step. I'm looking pretty strongly at Android, but he's really into Tannhauser. He likes the idea of the universe the game builds, and I'm a little skittish about the idea of a FPS on a board.

So, pitch me Tannhauser. Make me love it.

Well, firstly, Tannhäuser Lore is immense! Lots of details and history about the world you'll fight in. Characters on both Factions are really well tought out and detailed and they all have their own playstyle and tactics. You can customize each character before going in combat and you have lots of ways to kill your ennemy. You'll have to play differently depanding of your Faction and on which map you play.

Combat is fun and quick and brutal. It's all about placement and movement and a little bit of luck on your side (dice rolls) which add to the fun.

It's compared to a shooter because it's one side vs the other in an all out combat. There's multiple modes you can play in:

- Deathmatch: It's all about killing and last man/woman standing

- Story: Each Faction has it's own objectives and you have to gather more points than your opponent before the game ends. you get points my completing objectives (Primary and secondary), by killing ennemies, etc.

- Catch the Flag: Get the Flag in the ennemy base and bring it in your own.

- I maybe be missing other modes, can't remember...

It's a mix of warfare, fantasy and dark cultism. As I said, there's a lot of Lore in Tannhäuser and it's simply amazing. The game plays smooth, it's quick and visceral and fun. Plays best 1 vs 1 but with the Novgorod expansion it add one new Faction...so I guess you could play 1 vs 1 vs 1!!! You can also check out the Single and Troop Packs. New Heroes and Troops to add to your Faction and all are as unique as they can be.

I love it!

Here's my two cents, all the atmosphere in the world won't make you like a game if you don't like how it plays.

That said, I've loved Tannhauser since the beginning and back then the rules were clunkly and the gameplay was slow, but I stuck with it because I love the high gothic concept so much.

Take it, and you don't regret... it makes me addicted... it's made so good, so detailed, and each character is indispensable.

I think is the best board game of FFG, and the best boardgame that I palyed too.

You must try it!

And so the new version of the rules are a bit better, or a lot better? And why? Thanks happy.gif

I think the new rules are alot better, they're far more streamlined, and quicker to use and learn. Outside the basic game play changes, version two also rebalenced all the items and while this made hand to hand combat a little easier to avoid, it made the game more balenced over all.

With the new faction announced and ally system, it should add yet another layer of variety to the already vast game.
