Looking for Online Group

By PSAI76, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

i run a free flow kind of game all i do it get a ruff draft of a campain and let the players do what they want.

i have bin gming for about 6-7 years and that seems to work for me i just adapt for the characters and i adapt the world around them.

im use to running very long campains so the adventure will change as we go.

i guess my point is make any type of character you want and ill be able to fit you in.

as far as dwarf and elf in the same party ....well that is not somthing ill have to deal with thats what the party tention meater is for partido_risa.gif

Just to throw my opinion into the mix here...

Maptools accomodates more players easier than a traditional tabletop game might, so im cool with 5 players.

Additionally i'd encourage you guys to gather a good roster of players who are interested in playing because from previous experience playing online games, you will have a lot of schedulign conflicts and I can guarentee that all 5 of us will not be at each game. You will want substitutes.

I have found it easier to do 1 off games that link together isntead of a large arching campaign which requires regular attendance. Not saying its not possible, just that from experience, its HIGHLY unlikely that all your players will show up each game.

Really looking forward to participating.

So... when we gather online to build our characters?

good idea PSA, we need a decision on software, are we using skype or ventrilo. personally i have both installed.

we need to get together to chat and make up our characters, some of us have done our characters so its up to angrydragon whether he wants us to post our characters on here so the others can see them or just talk it through in the first session.

should we look at getting together at the same time sometime next week maybe?

for me just fine, friday or saturday night will be just good for me. i will be running a elf waywatcher. but i'm still waiting for adventurer tool kit, it brings more carreer's, so its better to wait a little more before i decide.

yae maybe next weekend we can just talk and go over characters friday evening or any time saturday is good for me. i would like to do ventrillo.

and we could also discuse when are fist session will be or if we have time we can start then also but i dont know if ill have maptools ready bye then im still not up to snuff in that. for some reason im finding maptool a little overwelming as this will be my 1st time using it and being the gm. i have never used battle maps or minis in any of my games and the standups in this game i never use.

I've already sent my character concept & sheet to angrydragon, and I am cool with using either ventrilo or skype. And yeah planning a date for the 1st session would be great, the more warning I have the more I can make sure that day is clear.

Next friday i cannot do as it is the opening night for my final year degree show exhibition. The saturday will be dependant on what time it is as i work during the daytime.

@PSA i dont have the adventurers toolkit but i have the players guide so if you want to go on an IM software like live messenger or just use skype i can give you any info you need on any of the other careers you are interested in?

I think this might also be a good point just to say what each person owns, as some of the expansions add stuff like disease and corruption it might be worth knowing who has those rules? does everyone have the players guide, that should be enough info for everyone shouldnt it?

@angrydragon if you are still having problems with maptools try get onto skype with Gitzman at the same time and he could talk you through it maybe?

So far i think myself and kartigan have our characters done, i can help PSA with his creation if he needs it. Gitzman and cogollo are you alright with characters?

I will definitely use your support during the creation of my character. Latter i will send you through here my skype mail adress so we can talk. Thks

I own all rules published until now (well, I have not received Omens of War yet, but I will).

I have already created a first character. It's a Reiklander Student that would suit well in a rural setting. My intention is creating a second character, a Reiklander Boatman that would be more adapted for a urban setting. I will send both to angrydragon when I finish them. In my view what is important when creating a group is finding some common story or connection between the characters; someone proposed that we could be trying to take revenge on a village having been razed by Beastmen or Orcs and that would surely work (I once played in a campaign with a similar start and it was a great campaign), though I guess here we should wait to see what kind of adventure angrydragon wants to run (it could be a published module) and adapt our characters a bit to such an adventure.

Finally, I have used Skype and TeamSpeak, but have no problem installing and using Ventrilo, As for meeting to talk, I won't be able to meet next weekend, as I'll be away from home, but as I guess meeting together could be problematic, you could arrange a meeting, and later I would join at some other point with one or two of you, you explain me what was decided and then I'd finish adapting my character to prepare for the adventure.

I will build my character during this week.

Just curious, is there room for one more? Or maybe another group starting up?

Talk to AngryDragon....

Yeh speak to angrydragon and see if he has enough space to accomodate you now.

PSA, have you made your character yet, do you still want a hand?

I have a very busy week ahead of me with my final year degree show but after this week i am definitely up for starting and having our first session. Everyone ok with that?

Have my character done already. reiklander agent. need angrydragon email to send the sheet to him. altough i still have a few questions.

We need to start talking mates...

I'm all set and ready to go, my character has already been sent to angry dragon. Last I'd heard he was familiarizing himself with MapTool. I'd also like to point out that planning the first session's date as far in advance as possible would greatly increase the chances that we are all able to attend, I know it's easier for me to keep weekends open than to have one free on short notice.

K, we need to check time zones and decide a date soon as possible during a weekend evening/night.

Kardigan, how did you send your character to angrydragon?

I befriended him here, then PMed him for his e-mail. Using Gitzsmans' fillable character sheet (you can find the link to his site in his signature) I filled a character sheet out and attached it to an e-mail that I sent to him. I'll let you PM him for his e-mail, I don't want to give it out in a forum.

@Kartigan

Makes sense...

@Angrydragon

Hi, Just send you me Char... if any problem comes just send me a shout. Thks

I have done the same thing. I created a Reiklander Student and sent it to him 7 days ago. Last few days I was on a trip and not using much my computer.

As for the dates+time to play, my suggestion is that, once Angry Dragon has all our characters, he can send an starting email to all our email addresses (he will have them due to us sending him the characters). With that we'll all have each other email addresses (that way it will be easy to contact in the future). As he'll be GMing this one, my proposal is that he chooses the time schedule that best suits him, then the rest of us will see whether we can join or not.

I also agree with Gitzmann (also due to my past experience) that the best way to do online RPG gaming is that we run one-shot adventures and keep switching GMs so that we all get a chance to play and nobody is overloaded. Running a long campaign with an online tool does not seem very practical except for people that know each other well before starting, as it requires a commitment that is difficult to gauge when you don't know personally everybody involved... Another advantage is that this way it allows other people like Vonpenguin to join future adventures...i.e. we would be creating a sort of "players pool" for playing as Gitzmann suggested (I'm actually doing a similar thing with my gaming club for playing D&D and it is working quite well).

My proposal is thus the following. Once he knows the adventure he wants to run, the GM takes a guess on the number of necessary sessions (it usually will take longer than a normal game, so better calculate appropriately), he then proposes the adventure and the actual time schedule, then people in the "players pool" can decide to join or pass on that adventure (in case they cannot join for whatever reasons, like maybe having already played it)... I believe this sort of flexibility would make the running of a MapTool Internet game easier.

Let me know if there happens to be room for one more. Id like to give WFRP a try!

Curses you beat me to it...

I guess I'll just have to wrestle you all for a spot now...
