Looking for Online Group

By PSAI76, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

ok kool. i already use ventrilo anyway for my online gaming clan gaming so i have that sorted. I'd really like to do some new stuff, all i know is ADLASS and AEFAE so not alot of variation in my encounters and such that i have experienced.

What page in the GM guide is contested combat? i will read and see if its different to how i run mine.

Also, how are we planning on character creation, i ask because i am running two games with two seperate groups atm and neither of them have a magic user and so i would really like to see them used and try them out, so if i could have try out a grey order apprentice wizard, would be awesome?

time wise, i can do sundays in the evenings from like 5-6pm onwards. i work in the morning/day during weekends.

Gitzman your help would obviously be VERY appreciated, especially with sorting everything with maptools.

not sure what page it is on i am note near my books atm but this is how it works.

1. its characteristic vs. characteristic ie. st vs st or ag vs. ag

in close combat its st you take the acting character st. and compare to the diffender if its less than half 0 challange dice less than 1 chal. same as 2 chal.

higher stat 3 chal dice and 2x more 4 chal dice. then add 1 missfortune per skill rank in ws.

same in ranged onlu use ag. instead of st.

thats the basics of it hope that makes sence.

as far a character creation i would let you choose what you wanted to be as long as it is a basic. and the 1st time we get together we would make the characters

@angrydragon: Better you talk to Gitzman about MapTools.

When we start? It's better to run up a session just to build our characters?

Yeah you can just PM me when you want to get going, I assume you aren't wanting us to make any characters until the first session? And like I said, I"m in Mountain Standard Time, and sometime in the evening of a weekday would work best for me (I work full time during the day).

sounds good i will get maptool figured out then we can get started.

If you want to make your character now that is fine but i find it better if everyone make them at the same time to help grp dinamic ie. if everyone make a wizard or some such.

how long would we want each session to be?

and how often would you guys like to play?

As i said, i am GMT and i work during the day on weekends. but other than that i am free alot of the time. Weekday nights are good for me aswell.

Urm i really want to try out the grey wizard but if others want to try out magic users i dont mind trying something else, i just havent had any magic in my 2 groups i am running so its something i want to see used. Theres a few others i like such as Grave robber, Thief, Pit Fighter.

I will have a look at maptools aswell when i get a bit of time to spare.

Also AngryDragon, you spoke about using contested combat rules, so 'str vs str' how do you justify these rules and doing it differently, i have only ever used those in the book as i found them to be a logical way of working it out, strength vs toughness and such.

I think we should give the initiative to the GM. I'm on GMT, so during the week it's just impossible becouse of the diference between the time zones. how about saturday night's? As for the character, any career it's good for me, i can adapt.

@destroyerhive i probably didn't explain it the right way. i have my book with me now i will be using "opposed check difficulty" found in pg 58 for combat in the main rulebook

as example player vs npc player has 3 st and 1 rank in ws npc has st 3 and 1 rank of ws the player action is basic melee he would roll 3blue 1yellow 2 challenge and 1 black

the 2 challenge is for having equal ws and the black for having it trained

hope this is a better example

if nobody wants to do opposed combat then we dont have to i want the whole grp to agree with it..

the only reason i want to use this rule it that i use it with my home grp and it seems to work very good and make it less likely to hit every time.

again if you hate the idea i will not use it

NPCs will have too much difficulty hitting the players. With the ability for fighters to have 2-3 defense cards running, one guarded position and up to three regular defense cards, a base difficulty of 2d is really over the top. I've tried it and it didn't work out very well and made riposte and counterblow way too powerful.

Often the iron breaker in our old campaign put 2-3 challenge dice and 5-7 misfortune dice into the monsters dice pool. He had cards that recharged defenses, so he could do it often.

I am perfectly fine with having Destroyer play a Magic User. I was thinking of doing a Troll Slayer pending GM & Group Approval, but I'm perfectly happy to play whatever we need.

As far as the opposed combat rules go, that is definitely different from RAW, but I'm willing to go along with whatever Angrydragon wants as he is GMing, and if he'd like to try them I'm all for it.

Also if PSA means Saturday nights for him (which would mean Saturday during the day for me I believe), I should be free to play some of the time, depending on how frequently we plan on playing. I may be free during the day some Saturday's as well as at night sometimes, it just depends. So I'm OK, with playing Saturday's, so long as it is only an every once in awhile thing, not every week. Thus I would suggest maybe playing once a month? I think bi-weekly would be at the very most, and that may be pushing it a bit to have every other weekend available. So I'd imagine possibly once every 3-4 weeks depending on people's schedules.

I'm just sort of spit balling the time and schedule thing here, what do you guys think?

i think once a month sound good my home grp plays every other week on saturday so it would have to be an off week of that.

as far as a gray wizard and a troll slayer sound like a fun grp. im fine with both of those.

every one has at least the core set?

i have core set SoF,Oow, and WoM so as far as careers all and any work for me

Once a month sound's good for me... we have to check the amplitude of the gap between time zones, so we can all agree about the schedule and the duration of the sessions. Have core set and waiting for creatures and adventure toolkit. If i like the game i buy more.

I've come up with an idea for the campaing... How about we raise to the ground a village, a result of a bestman, orcs, chaos marauders incursion. all the characters are survivors and native of that village or have a reason to be there during the attack. We all start as commoners or other carreer avaiable in the village. What you guys think?

Dudes,

I'd like to join in if there is room. I'm happy to help provide assistance in using MapTools as well. I'd be interested in joining as a player.

Keep me in mind when things get rolling plz =)

Jesse "Gitzman" Burke

Your are most welcome.

I'd be very happy to have Gitzman as a 4th player happy.gif.

As far as the campaign goes, I'd be willing to try anything that Angrydragon wants to run, since he is the GM. Either we can all submit our character ideas to him via PM and then he can weave something together, or we can have him tell us the general framework of what he's wanting to do and we can PM him characters to see if they fit within what he's wanting to do. I'm open to whatever basically, but I'm leaving all perogative up to Angrydragon since he is GMing.

sounds great i like kartigans idea about submit characters when you can so i know what the grp will be capable of before we start.

like i said before im good with any character just dont want 2 of the same career

so make characters as per RAW and pm or email me

@gitzman would love to have you on board and would like to get wit you about maptools and what ill need to download as of now i have no downloaded anything maptools related

i cant wait this will be a lot of fun

Oops, I think I saw this post a bit late, as I have been on a trip a couple weeks.

Well, if you are willing to get another player on board, I would love to play. I have been using MapTool extensively with my gaming group as a GM, but I would like to try it out as a player, specially since I've been unable to find someone to GM a Warhammer game in my club. I'm living in The Netherlands (GMT+1) and the plan you propose for playing once a month would be perfect for me.

At the moment, I'm busy running a D&D campaign so I'd like to play as a player, but I could GM an scenario when things get a bit more relaxed after summer, and that way the regular GM would have a chance to play if he wanted to.

If you are already too many, please let me know me if a slot opens up in the future.

@cogollo i would love to have you on board as long as everyone is ok with it. 5 players imo is a perfect.

allso would be cool if we could trade of campains as i would live to play as well. gran_risa.gif

I've sent angrydragon a rough draft of my character's outline (Troll Slayer, unless someone else wants to play one or has a different preference, I'm happy to play whatever). One Saturday a month to play Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay 3rd Edition online using MapTool, to quote Angrydragon "I can't wait this will be a lot of fun" gran_risa.gif.

I am not very familiar with MapTool, but I've watched the tutorial video for players and I think I have a semi-basic handle on it. Will be fun to learn it.

*Edit* Forgot to add that I'm cool with a 5th player, happy to see a group forming up.

no problem's with 5.

I'm definitely up for having 5 players, that would be awesome, infact i think its probably a perfect size group to allow the GM to throw interesting things at us.

@angrydragon i have PMed you my two character concepts, the first is the grey wizard that i mentioned, but if someone else wants magic or you feel he does not fit in then feel free to use the second concept, a human thief. He's pretty stupid but very skilled at what he does.

Well, thanks a lot for accepting me in. Still, I don't want to intrude, so if we see during the game that we are too many players, I don't mind dropping first as I was the last to jump in...

@angrydragon Is there any theme for the campaign regarding race? I mean, with Black Fire Pass coming soon, maybe you'd like us to create Dwarf characters...

As for careers, I would like to play a Student from one of the Empire's universities, so a Human Student. If the campaign is more Dwarf oriented, then I'd play a Barber-Surgeon Dwarf. I'll prepare the concepts this evening after work and send them to you.

I think it's better the GM decide about the setting first before we choose characters, but it just my opinion, i respect whatever he decides.
