Discard all cards in deck

By xqg5009, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

What if in some cases that some one lose all cards in his/her decks?? Does he/she lose immediately? Or he/she loses after the next draw phase (since he/she can't draw cards). Or he/she doesn't lose after all??

This question came to my mind since recently i have started playing House Greyjoy.

There is no win/loss condition associated with your deck. The only win condition is acquiring the necessary amount of power.

So if your opponent has no cards left in his draw deck, you don't automatically win. You still need to reach the win condition.

Really, you only need to look at the rule book. Nothing is said about losing when your draw deck is empty, so why assume that would be the case? :)

This is the primary reason the Greyjoy "discard" strategy is not seen as a particularly strong strategy. You still have to collect your 15 power to win. You would really be putting a lot of effort into discarding your opponent's entire deck - and might not have anything left to actually accumulate power.

I have, in fact, seen a Greyjoy deck discard an entire opponent's deck before the end of the second round -- and go on to lose the game.

That would be me :) I discarded Ring's deck in the second round in a game a Highlander game at Gencon 2009. Then lost!

you played "we take westros" event card, right?? that was exactly what happen yesterday when i played greyjoy. I discarded 24 cards from my opponent's deck, lol.

You won a power challenge by 24 STR?

That card hadn't been printed in 2009. As I recall, it was a Marshaling combo that kept bouncing the Desperate Looters into and out of play.

i could win much higher, lol.

I am quite curious, how did that happen?? how to make the "desperate looter" keep coming in and out??

In 2009 I was not using We Take Westeros. That card was just released in the Brotherhood cycle.

It was a Classic (Legacy) Highlander event at Gencon of 2009. I was using Desparate Looters with Discretion on a turn when I had Beggar King revealed.

The Deck was a Targ Treaty to Greyjoy deck, so that I wasn't paying a gold penalty for any of the above mentioned cards. I used either Blackwater shores or Against the Nameless Other to lower the cost of the Looters to nothing.
